Hey, Faithfuls! So I just came back from my trip to Seoul, Korea, and one of the most memorable things I did was the Korean colour analysis. FYI, the colour analysis trend is a popular beauty and fashion phenomenon that helps individuals identify the most flattering colours for their skin tone, undertones, and overall complexion. This trend gained traction with the introduction of "seasonal colour analysis," a concept that categorises individuals into four seasonal types (winter, summer, spring, and autumn) based on their natural colouring.

I was recommended Cocory, a color analysis company located in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. Unfortunately, English-speaking sessions for December were fully booked by the time I attempted to reserve. However, luck was on my side as my mom and aunt, who were also on the trip with us, had already secured their bookings. They assisted us in requesting the company to add my sister and me to their group session, making it a group of four. Cocory kindly agreed to accommodate our request. The session set me back about S$90 per person.

Cocory is nestled on the sixth floor of an aged building, surounded by quaint restaurants and other houses. The studio itself was spacious, with smaller rooms for colour analysis sessions.

Before delving into my personal colour analysis, our knowledgeable colour analyst walked us through the fundamental theories. She explained the categorisation of the four seasons and the methodology to pinpoint the colours that complement one's features, emphasizing the importance of assessing the "apple zone," which encompasses the under-eye to the cheek area.

It appears that the focus isn't solely on which colours appear visually appealing on you; instead, it revolves around selecting colours that enhance your complexion, diminish the redness of your "apple zone," and harmonise with your skin tone.

Before determining our skin tone, we were prompted to select a colour palette that resonated with us or one that we felt reflected our personality best. This step allowed us to integrate the colours we preferred and our individual style with the colours identified as our personal palette.

The informative colour lecture spanned approximately 15 minutes, providing a solid foundation before unveiling my daily palette. Using a specialised device, the analyst performed a scan to determine my skin tone. The result revealed that I belonged to the "summer pale tone" category.

The next step involved the draping process and presenting colour swatches near my face to assess how they enhance my complexion (or not). During this process, I gained more insights into the makeup colours, jewellery tones, and even hair colours that suit me. I learned that I suited pastel colours such as light pinks and blues, silver jewellery and darker hair colours.

My colour analyst also informed me of my suitable makeup shades, including lipstick, foundation, eyeshadow, and more, while also providing recommendations for specific products available at Olive Young.

During the final 10 minutes of the session, we had the opportunity to present her with 10 of our current makeup products for her review, to determine if they were suitable for us.

I really enjoyed the experience and would love to try it again, perhaps to seek a second opinion. It's a fun activity to do with friends and family, and it's great to discover the colours that truly suit me; they make a significant difference. Interestingly, I've been receiving more compliments on my outfits and complexion from my friends since the colour analysis. I highly recommend giving it a try if you're looking to enhance your style and glow up in 2024!
