Cafes In Singapore That Let You Study Or Do Work

cafes-study-singapore

Hey friends!

As students, my boyfriend and I study outside a lot. I don't mind studying at home, but my bf's pampered ass (sorry love) needs great ambiance and coffee in order for his brain to feel productive. We used to study in school and at cafes like Starbucks, but ever since Covid-19, cafes have been clamping down on students studying since we hog the seats all day.

There are some cafes that let you sit and study there, but it can be hard to find power sockets or the drinks can be rather expensive. So today I want to introduce a list of cafes in Singapore that allow you to study - and have ample power sockets for you to use!

1. Cafe De Muse

I love Cafe De Muse because their staff is rather chill with students doing work there. Drinks cost around S$7 (try their Dalgona coffee!) and they serve free ice water. If you like, you can even order alcohol!

The food is quite meh but comes in decent portions, and I appreciate that I can have all my meals here in one place. Usually, I'll eat their personal pizzas which cost around S$10-ish. You can order as much as you want and pay before leaving the cafe.

There is a secret spot behind the bar counter with power sockets, and it's a cozy place to study alone or as a couple. If you have too many drinks and nature calls, the nearest toilet is one level up or you can exit the Shaw House building and go to the one at the International Building.

The only downside to studying here is that the food and drinks are quite pricey and it can get noisy sometimes during peak hours.

Pros: good location, open 24 hours, power sockets available
Cons: can be noisy during peak hours, long queues, pricey

2. Ice Bar

Ice Bar is a pretty cool place and they specialize in waffles. They also have a student promo where you get 10% off the total bill every day. All you need to do is flash your student card. They even openly invite students to come and study here from 12pm-6pm from Tuesdays to Fridays.

And of course, here you also get to study in a cool environment with neon lights! The one downside is that Ice Bar is located at HOUGANG which is pretty damn far for everyone else who doesn't live at Hougang. But I mean if you're willing to travel all the way there for great waffles and a nice place to study, be my guest!

Pros: nice ambiance, student discounts, study privileges
Cons: location is at Hougang

3. Komyuniti

Komyuniti has to be my favourite study place thus far. This hidden gem is a restaurant slash bar slash restaurant, and it's located at YOTEL. I actually came upon this place during my YOTEL staycation, and ever since then, I've become a frequent customer.

The food here is really good and affordable, and I really recommend the brussel sprouts! They also have lots of lunch deals which are below S$10 during the weekdays.

The restaurant is pretty big and since it's relatively unknown, often quiet. There are less than five people here during the day so you don't have to rush to snatch seats. There are also tons of charging ports everywhere. The staff have great music taste and I really enjoy listening to the lo-fi tracks as well.

Komyuniti actually hopes to market themselves as a place to study and eat, so they welcome students and professionals to come here and do their work. They have private meeting rooms as welll that you can book at an affordable fee.

Latest update: came back here a few months later and they’ve changed their policy and no longer allow members of the public to do work or study here. Like, a complete 180 degree change from what was told to me previously. Am really disappointed, but it is what it is.

Pros: delicious and affordable food, good location, lots of power sockets
Cons: Can't find any!

Komyuniti
Address: 366 Orchard Road Level 10, YOTEL, 238904

4. Rocky Master

Rocky Master at Bugis used to be my go-to before I found Cafe De Muse and then Komyuniti. I liked it because of its location which was very convenient at Bugis, and because they served pretty good coffee. If you like studying in a bustling cafe with lots of people, this is the place for you! Rocky Master is filled with students and insurance agents for some reason, and there are lots of office people who come here during lunch hours.

The one thing I don't like about this place is that it can be hard to find seats especially if you come later in the afternoon. There are about five tables with charging ports and the rest don't have them, so to make sure you get the good seats, try to come around 10am!

Pros: decent coffee, good location
Cons: can be noisy, hard to get seats

5. Dal.komm Cafe

Dal.komm Cafe is well known among Korean drama fans as it's appeared in DOTS and Goblin. It's also a pretty good place to study at! I frequent the one at The Centrepoint as my boyfriend has his spin classes at Absolute Cycle in the same building.

It's relatively quiet most of the time and there aren't too many people. It's also easy to get seats with charging sockets. If you listen to K-pop, you'll love this place too since they play tons of Korean hits.

Food-wise and coffee-wise, they're so-so. Note that this place is also freaking cold so do remember to bring a jacket!

Pros: easy to find seats, nice ambiance, nice music
Cons: pricey

Study in peace at these cafes in Singapore

Hope that this list gives you an idea of the cafes you can study at! There are also a few other places that I didn't include in the list because I didn't want to make it too long. They are:

  • Kith Café @ Millenia Walk
  • Koufu @ Millenia Walk
  • LiHO @ Bugis+
  • Mellower Coffee @ Bugis
  • Starbucks @ Bugis+

Also hope ya'll understand that the policies of these cafes listed here may change, so there is a chance they may prohibited studying in the future. But for now, all we can do is pray they don't. See you next post (:
