ZCOOP: 5 TV Shows You Must Watch In 2017
2016 saw the airing of a whopping 451 original TV series with major ones like American Crime Story and Game of Thrones (RIP Hodor, RIP Tommen) dominating water cooler conversations. Now with the availability of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon, viewers everywhere are spoiled for choice. For your convenience we’ve listed the top 5 TV shows to watch in 2017 — everything everyone’s been watching, talking about and binging over.
Get ready because we are about to give you some serious TV FOMO.
1. Riverdale (The CW)
Loosely based off the Archie Comics, this half High School Musical, half Pretty Little Liars teen drama is addictive as it is confusing, with new suspects popping up when you least expect it. Everyone (yes, everyone) is a suspect until proven innocent, and we’re ever rooting for our four protagonists to find out #WhoKilledJasonBlossom. While the first season of Riverdale is only halfway through, its dark and chilling plot have sent fans into a frenzy inventing theories on the identity of the killer. Could it be him? Could she have done it? You’d just have to watch it to find out!
2. 13 Reasons Why (Netflix)
There are possibly more than 13 reasons why you should watch this show but listing all of them down would take 13 pages. Based on the same-titled best seller by Jay Asher, 13 Reasons Why is a teen suicide drama focusing on bullying, suicide and mental health. Surely anyone who’s been through high school would know from his or her own experiences that being a teenager is no walk in the park, and that makes the show even more relatable.
The Netflix Original also has an amazing soundtrack thanks to Selena Gomezwho serves as executive producer for this series. As some scenes are pretty graphic, Netflix does provide a trigger warning during the start of sensitive episodes.
3. Game of Thrones (HBO)
There’s no denying that Game of Thrones is one of the best shows on TV. While our hearts still haven’t healed over the death of our favorite characters across six seasons (Hodor! Hodor!), we can’t say that we aren’t looking forward to Season 7 which premiers on the 17th of July. With Cerseitaking the throne in Season 6 and the reclaim of Winterfell by Jon and Sansa, it’s a sure sign that this season foresees a harsh battle lying ahead for all of Westeros.
4. Big Little Lies (HBO)
In Liane Morarty’s best-seller Big Little Lies, Madeline, Celeste and Jane are three mothers who become friends in ways that unintentionally expose worrying secrets in the peaceful beachfront town of Monterey, California. Boasting a rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, the seven-episode miniseries explores society’s misconception of marriage, parenting and friendship with it’s brilliant take on ex-husbands and scheming mistresses.
5. Stranger Things (Netflix)
In Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers tell a nostalgia-driven story about four kids in 1983 who get caught up in a terrifying mystery involving missing children, psychic phenomena and alternate dimensions. Thanks to the 30-second teaser released during Super Bowl 51, we do know for a fact that The Upside Down will play a major part in Season 2. With the new series to be out this Halloween, be sure to get ready for a whole lot of tentacle monsters, Demogorgons and things that go bump in the night!
