Hey, Faithfuls! For the past two years, I've been hitting the gym religiously, and if you've been following my blog consistently, you've probably seen some of my spin studio reviews. However, recently, I've decided to take a break from spinning and explore a new fitness routine: BFT.

BFT, also known as Body Fit Training, offers group-based strength training sessions designed to deliver positive results for individuals of all fitness levels. These 50-minute workouts focus on cardio, functional movement, strength, and balance, with each day offering a different emphasis.

Around six months ago, I joined BFT along with my colleagues since there's a studio conveniently located near our office, just a bus stop away. Initially, I was a bit hesitant about trying it out as I've always preferred cardio-based exercises. However, with some encouragement from my colleagues, I decided to give it a shot.

FYI, BFT offers an impressive selection of 14 different classes, and I'll briefly outline the main ones I usually attend below:
  • Cardio U: A session where participants follow prescribed heart rate zones for work and recovery periods.
  • Cardio Summit: Longer duration efforts aimed at targeting the aerobic energy system.
  • Shred: High-intensity cardio combined with strength training.
  • Strength: Focuses on overall strength through compound lifts.
  • Balanced: Targets all muscle groups in a full-body workout.
  • Pump: A high-volume resistance program targeting either upper or lower body muscle groups.
Some of the classes require pair work as well, which means you'll be paired with someone else with the same fitness level as you, and both of you would work through the exercises together and spot each other.

BFT follows a science-backed program, and each participant is provided with a heart-rate monitor to wear during sessions. Throughout the workout, your heart rate is displayed on a screen, allowing you to adjust your intensity level accordingly.

With two to three trainers per session, you'll receive personalised attention to ensure proper form and motivation to push through challenging moments. Among the various studios I've visited across Singapore, my favourite is the one at Kallang Bahru. The instructors here are exceptionally friendly and welcoming, creating a supportive environment that feels like home.

Booking classes is hassle-free through the BFT app, with the option to reserve up to a minute before the session starts. Prices may vary depending on the studio, typically averaging around S$40 per class, billed bi-weekly. My membership gives me unlimited sessions, and attending at least three times a week ensures I get my money's worth!

Oh, and most studios come with towels and shower facilities, too. The one at Kallang Bahru doesn't have a toilet, but it does have shower cubicles. It also has a water cooler and "locker" to put your things.

After trying out all sorts of workouts over the years, like spin classes, yoga, tennis, and even Taekwondo, I gotta say BFT has been a game-changer for me. Seriously, within just three months of sticking to it, my friends started noticing some real changes, especially in my arms and stomach. The comprehensive nature of the BFT program, integrating both cardiovascular exercises and strength training, leaves me feeling revitalized and fulfilled after every session.

While starting out may feel intimidating, I can assure you that with time and persistence, it gets easier. I remember feeling like a complete fitness noobie during my first few weeks, but now, I'm almost there every day, feeling right at home and motivated to keep going.

For those interested in giving it a try, BFT is also available on ClassPass. So why not give it a shot and see if it's the right fit for you?

Thanks for reading, stay healthy, and see you next post!
