Hey, Faithfuls! Recently, I moved back to the East (YAY!) with my friend, and we settled in Simei. There’s not much here, to be honest, but Eastpoint Mall has everything you need. From BBT to supermarkets, fast food, and of course, bakeries!

One of my go-to spots for an old-school fix is Butter & Cream Bakery. If you love simple, classic treats like egg tarts and muffins, this place should definitely be on your radar. I've tried almost everything on their menu!

First up, their Original Egg Tart (S$2.60) is a no-brainer. I always go for this! It has a silky smooth filling with a creamy, slightly milky texture. It’s on the sweeter side, but not overpoweringly so. The perfect balance if you ask me.

But if you’re feeling adventurous, try the Salted Egg Lava Tart (S$2.90)—it’s a fan favourite for a reason! This tart has a buttery, crumbly crust that holds up so well with the savoury, molten filling inside. It’s got that salty-sweet combo, plus the filling is extra creamy with a hint of that signature salted egg richness.

Sometimes, the bakery features flavoured egg tarts, too!

For all you cheese lovers, the Burnt Cheese Tart (S$2.90) is a must-try. The flaky, buttery crust is baked until perfectly golden, with a rich, velvety cheese filling that’s both smooth and slightly tangy. It has that satisfying balance of sweetness from the crust and the subtle sharpness of the cheese that keeps you coming back for more.

Muffin-wise, I couldn’t resist grabbing a Chocolate Muffin (S$2.60). It’s moist, rich, and has just the right amount of chocolate flavour without being overly sweet. If this were a lava muffin, it’d probably be next-level, but as it is, it’s still a pretty indulgent treat.

Next up is the Oreo Chocolate Muffin (S$2.60). If you’re a fan of darker chocolate flavours, you’ll love this one. It’s got a nice, deep cocoa taste with the crunch from the Oreo bits, and like their other muffins, it’s not too sweet, which is always a plus.

The Volcano Cheese Muffin (S$2.60) was... interesting. It’s definitely an acquired taste. The cheese felt a bit too jelak for me, and the sweet-and-savoury pairing didn’t quite hit the spot. But if you’re a cheese enthusiast, you might want to give it a go!

banana-muffin

On the other hand, the Banana Muffin (S$2.60) is a classic done right. Soft, moist, and packed with banana flavour, it hits that perfect level of sweetness. You get the natural sweetness from the bananas without it being cloying, and the texture is just light enough to keep you wanting another bite.

Lastly, I couldn’t leave without trying the Hokkaido Cream Muffin (S$2.60). This was by far one of the best! The cream was so sweet and decadent, oozing out with every bite. The fluffiness of the muffin paired perfectly with the rich, fragrant Hokkaido milk cream. It’s indulgent, yes, but the kind of indulgence that’s worth every calorie.

Overall, I feel pretty lucky to live near Butter & Cream Bakery. Sure, it’s a little pricey per piece, but the portions are generous. After two muffins, I’m usually stuffed. Definitely a solid spot if you’re in Simei and looking for a snack!

Thanks for reading, and see you next post~
