ZCOOP: 5 Alternatives To The Most Insane Beauty Trends Of 2017

by - May 24, 2017

We have to admit, 2016 was tough.

From millennials bruising their lips over the #kyliejennerlipchallenge, to men and women drawing in their brows to resemble bushy little caterpillars…it felt like people were coming up with these crazy trends just to distract themselves from the series of unfortunate events that struck 2016.

When 2017 came around, everyone thought the worst was over. Instead, we were hit with another wave of unicorn hysteria and a case of glitter fever. From slightly quirky to simply bananas, here are the 5 most insane beauty trends of 2017 with practical alternatives for those who wish to hop onto the trend bandwagon.

1. Glitter boobs

This latest fashion trend is as literal as its name and I dare say that it makes sense considering Singapore’s high temperatures. I mean, why wear a shirt when you can simply stick on a lot of glitter to cover up all your cheeky bits? Nothing beats a bit of sparkle with amazing ventilation!

However, sweat can make the sequins and jewels drop off easily which may result in a hot sparkly mess. Instead of going through all that fuss, why not throw on a dress with glitzy sequins? Now you don’t have to worry about a wardrobe malfunction.

2. Glitter lips

It’s all about that sparkling smile these days — and I’m not referring to your pearly whites. Thanks to make-up guru Pat McGrath’s Lust 004 lip kits, people around the globe are obsessed with applying a glittery, disco-ball finish to their lips. While this mesmerizing trend may be far from practical, glittery lip glosses may be just the thing to achieve a simpler version of this look.

3. Microblading

You probably thought that the eyebrow trend would have sizzled off by now, but just like the Kardashians, the trend is here to stay in 2017. Similar to eyebrow tattooing, microblading is the newer and more intricate version of using micro-needle tools to deposit pigments under your skin, thus making your eyebrows look thicker and fuller.

While we’re all about having fuller brows, microblading can easily cost you up to $1200 which is almost ridiculous considering the fact that it isn’t permanent. The cheaper alternative? — A simple eyebrow pencil and a little bit of effort.

4. Lollipop lips

No, this isn’t the #kyliejennerlipchallenge gone wrong, but an experimental look introduced by MAC Cosmetics as “Lollipop Lips”. The intentional smudging on the outside of the lips — which look like nothing but a terrible mistake — is supposed to simulate the effect of sucking on a lollipop.

Unless you want to look like you’ve just made out with a vampire, we strongly suggest that you stick to lipsticks that do not smudge.

5. Holographic makeup

Inspired by reflective, space-like pinks, lilacs and blues, the holographic trend proves that 2017 is the future and every female is a unicorn. Adding an iridescent glow to your face instantly makes you look like you’re from another planet, and with a whole bunch of beauty brands hopping on to the holographic makeup trend, you’ll be sure to have all your facial features covered from your eyes and cheeks to the lips.

Holographic makeup may be the perfect look during a girl’s night out, but it’s better to keep the spacey colors down to a minimum during the day.
