Super Raved About HaiChiJia Suan La Fen Mala Instant Noodles Review!
I LOVE MALA. And if you follow me on Instagram, you'd know because I have a highlight dedicated to my Mala ventures. Apparently Suan La Fen (酸辣粉)has become the newest trend in Singapore, and they're basically potato noodles from Sichuan with a spicy, savoury, and sour taste. They are also halal!
For some reason, a particular man and his Suan La Fen have been taking Instagram by storm. Unless you've been living under a rock, you'd probably recognise this packaging and his face. A cult favourite, this brand is called HaiChiJia (海吃家酸辣粉)and has been dominating everyone's Instagram stories since the start of the Circuit Breaker. Not sure why it's SOOOO popular, but a quick guess is probably because it combines Singaporeans' 2 favourite words - "Mala" + "instant".
My boyfriend recently bought a box of HaiChiJia Suan La Fen from Shopee for $19.90. The noodles come in a box of 6 so you, your parents, siblings, and house cat can all have a taste!
After adding the ingredients, we poured boiled water in and left the noodles for about 4-5 minutes. I think this duration is the best because it allowed the noodles to soak up the soup without making it too soggy.
So, how does it taste like?
Well, if you're a fan of spicy food but have poor spice tolerance, this is perfect for you! The soup definitely has some sort of kick to it, but the spiciness is well balanced by the vinegar. On the other hand, I also made sure not to pour the whole chilli oil packet inside because I know I'm weak.
Also, the noodles were really chewy, and when added with peanuts gave the whole dish a satisfying crunch! The dried beancurd skin was also delish.
The ingredients provided were definitely enough to make this a 10/10 dish, but if you'd like the soup to have a creamier texture, add in a Japanese raw egg and stir it in!
There are a few ways to get your hands on the HaiChiJia Suan La Fen - from Taobao at $19++ or on Asia's Best Food where it's sold at $16.90, which is probably the cheapest we can find so far! On the other hand, I do have a secret lobang who can sell it to you at $13 a box, so just comment here if you want to buy!
Better snag these popular noodles before they run out, and see you next post!
