Nespresso Inissia Machine Review

nespresso inissia machine review
I just received the best parcel today - my new Nespresso Coffee machine!
My boyfriend and I have been wanting to get a Nespresso Coffee Subscription for the longest time, but we held it off because times are tough and we didn't know if we should commit. If you don't know, the Nespresso Coffee Subscription starts from $35/ month, and it comes with a FREE coffee machine at $35. Here is a short breakdown of the 3 different Coffee Subscription plans:

  • Inissia Plan: $35/ month + $1 coffee machine (U.P $198)
    • Receive $35 worth of credits
    • Approximately 50 capsules/ month
    • Free delivery on first order under the plan
    • Minimum 1 year subscription
  • Essenza Mini & Milk Plan: $45/ month + $1 coffee machine (U.P $238)
    • Receive $45 worth of credits
    • Approximately 60 capsules/ month
    • Free delivery on first order under the plan
    • Minimum 1 year subscription
  • Lattissima Touch Plan: $85/ month + $1 coffee machine (U.P $548)
    • Receive $85 worth of credits
    • Approximately 120 capsules/ month
    • Free delivery on first order under the plan
    • Minimum 1 year subscription

The Nespresso Inissia Plan

We got the Inissia Plan because my boyfriend is the one who religiously drinks coffee and I only get coffee when I have early morning classes. Also we just wanted to try out and see if it was something we really wanted.

The good thing about this plan is that if you do change your mind, you can cancel the subscription within 7 days and have the cancellation fee waived. You will also get back a full refund for your first monthly fee and the machine. Of course, you'll have to return the machine too.

If you cancel after 7 days, that's a completely different story and you'll have to fork out the hefty cancellation fee that corresponds with your plan - $150 for the Inissia Plan, $190 for the Essenza Mini & Milk Plan, and $470 for the Lattissima Touch Plan.

On the other hand, it's so absolutely worth it if you do decide to stick to the plan. My boyfriend and I made some calculations and found out that we spend about $3.50 for a cup of coffee (usually from Ya Kun). We easily consume coffee about 3 days a week (per person), and that amounts to $84 spent on coffee a month.

With the Nespresso Inissia Plan, we would be given $35 worth of credits per month which entitles us to about 40-50 capsules. One capsule costs around $0.70, and for the same amount that we drink a month, we would only be spending $16.80 every month... AND that's without maxing out our Nespresso credits. So you can see how this is super super worth it!

I signed up for the subscription on Friday at 2am, and the machine was delivered the next day around 1pm. Inside the big box that was delivered, we found the machine and a free box of assorted capsules. We were like yaaaaasssssss.

Do take note that while you can arrange for the machine to be delivered right away upon subscribing to the plan, you'll need to wait for a few hours for the Nespresso credits to be entered into your account. This means that the machine and the capsules would come separately. So when we saw the free box of capsules, we were really glad because we didn't have to wait for the capsules we ordered separately to come in order to try out the machine.

Trying the Nespresso Inissia machine

My boyfriend's uncle has a Nespresso machine so we have a slight idea on how to operate it. When you set up the machine, you'll need to "rinse"it internally first. All you need to do is pour water into the machine's water container and turn the machine on. It's the same process as making coffee, just that this time the thing that's dispensed is water. You'll need to rinse the machine 3 times.

After rinsing, we were ready to use the machine! We popped in our chosen capsules, pressed a button, and voila - we had a delicious cuppa coffee in just seconds! The coffee that came out was freshly hot and the scent was so amazing it filled up the room. Our room actually smelt heavenly even a few hours after that.

I knew that it was easy to make coffee using the Nespresso machine, but I didn't know it was THIS easy. If you're someone who usually take hours to wake up and get ready for work/ school, having this machine by your bedside will definitely speed up your morning routine.

Now onto the fun part - tasting the coffee!

We've only owned the Inissia Coffee machine for 2 days, so obviously we haven't tried all of the different flavours yet. But I know everyone will be curious about the different coffee flavours, so I'll just briefly review the ones that we tried.

The names of the coffee capsules are displayed on the box's interior lid, and you can view the different flavours' intensity, volume, and the type of coffee that it is. By the way, I'm a bit of a coffee noob so I don't really know about attas coffee terms and whatnot because I only care about the taste, but I'll review to the best of my ability using layman language.

If you'd like, please feel free to educate my uncultured ass.

Before going on to the specific flavours, here's a brief guide on the different categories of coffee in 2020:

  • Intenso: multi-blends with intense characteristics
  • Espresso: traditional coffee with superior quality
  • Master Origin: also Espressos but come in collections that are traced back to their origins
  • Lungo: "longer" or "tall" coffee, with typically double the amount of water in an Espresso
  • Decaffeinato: deffeinated coffee, duh
  • Barista Creations or "Variations": variations of Livanto coffee with natural aromas

Now onto the specific coffees!

nespresso capsules

Vivalto Lungo Decaffeinato

Intensity level: 4
We actually tried out the coffee machine in the evening and didn't want to have difficulty sleeping, so we chose decaf coffee first. Just like it's name, the Vivalto Lungo Decaffeinato is vivacious with floral and fruity tones. I actually liked this coffee a lot because it's very mild; it's not too bitter and not too acidic as well. I can totally see why people drink this coffee just for it's taste, and I also feel it'll go really well with sweet pastries.

Firenze Arpeggio Decaffeinato

Intensity level: 9
Now upping up the intensity of decaf coffee is Firenze Arpeggio Decaffeinato with a whopping intensity of 9/10. If the Vivalto was too smooth and you want something creamier with richer flavour, this is it. The aroma is very smoky and you can smell hints of thick cocoa as well. I guess the best way to describe this coffee is that it tastes like... wine?

You gotta taste it to believe it.

Genova Livanto Espresso

Intensity level: 6
I chose Genova Livanto because it's known to be a more mellow coffee and there are roasted caramelised notes. Overall, this coffee seems to be one of the most well balanced because it has a bit of everything - fruity, caramelised, malted, and even cereal aromas. This was just a joy to sip on, and it was so easy to drink and very addictive.

Ispirazione Firenze Arpeggio

Intensity level: 9
milk
Now this was a super intense coffee, and obviously my boyfriend was the one who drank it. To tone down the intensity, you can add some milk and ice and it'll taste like a simple latte. This coffee is probably more suitable for people who like bitter coffee, and trust me when I say this one wakes you up like an alarm in the morning.

Master Origin Columbia

Intensity level: 6
The Master Origin Columbia is known for its fruity-acidic taste, so it kinda tastes like wine as well. I'm not really into sourish coffee, but this one isn't too bad; you can taste a hint of the blackcurrant and cranberries along with some roasty aromas. Not really my kind of thang, but some of you may love it!

There are also free booklets that come with the machine and they provide more specific details on the individual coffee flavours. It's best to read that up to decide which flavours suit your palate best.

nespresso capsules information

One important thing to note is that unlike this assorted capsules box I received, the "normal" capsules you order will come in boxes of 10. The price listed is for 1 capsule, so if each costs $0.70 you'll be paying for a box of 10 at $7.

Here is a shot of the capsules I bought for myself! The flavours are Fortissio Lungo ($0.75), Scuro ($0.80)Ispirazione Venezia ($0.75), and Caramel Creme Brulee ($0.85).

Cleaning and descaling the Nespresso Inissia machine

To make sure the precious machine lasts long, you'll need to clean it once in a while - like, once every 300 capsules. So you can see it's not that much of a hassle, and more importantly the entire cleaning process only takes 20 minutes.

You can clean or "descale" - yep, new attas coffee term! - the machine using white vinegar, or with the solution from the Nespresso Descaling Kit ($26). Just empty your capsule container, pour a mixture of water and the descaling solution into your water container, and then turn your machine on. Remember to put an empty cup under the coffee outlet.

For the Nespresso Inissia machine, you need to press the two flashing buttons at the same time for 3 seconds for descaling to start. Once the machine runs its cycle for about 10 minutes, you can rinse the water and pour fresh water into it. Then run the cycle again for 10 minutes just with water.

To stop descaling, simply press the same buttons you pressed to start it again. Remember to also empty and rinse the drip tray, and allow the Nespresso machine to dry for 10 minutes before using it again.

You can also collect the used Nespresso capsules for recycling and hand it over to your deliveryman the next time they bring you your orders.

The video below shows the whole descaling process on a Nespresso Inissia machine.

Starting a new coffee journey with Nespresso!

I'm really glad I got this Nespresso machine and it just makes me so excited to wake up every morning. It's only been a few days but my boyfriend and I are already considering getting 1 machine each instead of sharing. It's convenient, affordable, and makes consuming coffee even more enjoyable.

If this review has swayed you, make sure to head over to Nespresso now and get your own coffee machine today. See you next post!
