Hey friends! I recently came back from a staycation at lyf Funan Singapore which was booked using our SingapoRediscovers Vouchers. My boyfriend and I had low expectations coming to this staycation because we're used to staying in 'hotel' hotels instead of boutique hotels, but I have to say that we had a perfect time at lyf Funan.

We stayed on a Saturday, and the rates were S$110/night for the One Of A Kind (Studio). However, as we used our SingaporeRediscovers Vouchers, we only paid S$5/person!

Check-in time was 3pm, but we headed over to lyf Funan an hour earlier if we had a chance for early check-in. Unfortunately, our room was not ready yet, but the friendly staff first helped us with the check-in process. We were asked to download their app called Discover ASR, and they helped us set everything up, such as our digital room key access.

We were also given a lock and a space to put down our luggage. While waiting, we walked around lyf Funan to explore the area. We saw this signboard called Royalflush and headed in and found out that it was a restroom! I dare say it's one of the most fabulous restrooms I've seen.

The inside was decked with neon decorations which made us feel like we were in a club!

There's also this large workspace in the lobby where many residents are studying or doing their work. Many foreign students or exchange students live at lyf Funan since it's a co-living space, and the rent apparently starts from S$2,400/month, which is somewhat expensive in my opinion. But of course, you have to consider things like location, housekeeping, aircon, etc.

The workspace also had a 'detox station' where you could get a cup of Starbucks coffee at a price.

There's even a mini arcade with a darts machine to play with when you need a short break.

We also took the stairs up to level 5, where the kitchen was, and we saw some of the residents whipping up their meals. The kitchen was very spacious and looked pretty clean too.

Right outside the kitchen, we saw a few tables and chairs where you could enjoy your meals or just sit and chill. There was nobody there when we were there, possibly because of Covid and the social distancing measures.

Oh, and while we were going up the stairs to level 5, we walked past this really cool ball pit! Unfortunately, it was closed while we were there because of the pandemic, but it must have been a really cool Instagram spot before this!

Level 6 was where the gym was located. I won't really call it a gym, though, as it's more of a workout space with very simple exercise equipment. This was also where The lyf Wheels were located - it's like hamster wheels, but human-sized! my boyfriend tried it out, and he said it worked out quite a sweat. Unfortunately, lyf Funan does not have a pool.

We finally checked in around 2.45pm and headed up to our room at level 8. The lifts at lyf Funan are really cool because it has sensors that activate the lift buttons, so you don't have to touch anything. Instead, we simply hovered our fingers over a specific button, making it light up, and up or down we went.

At level 8, we walked past a common area with a water dispenser, ironing board, sink, and fridge. Unfortunately, there are no fridges in the rooms, so you will have to put whatever food you want to store in the shared fridge, but don't worry - it seems like everyone here is pretty considerate, and there are rules in place for using the fridge. Your items also have to be labelled, and expired food will be thrown away every week.

On the way to our room, we walked past other residents' doors with a mini blackboard outside where they could write messages to one another or leave requests for housekeeping. We also had one outside our door, which we wrote our names on!

Now we finally entered the room! Our One Of A Kind (Studio) was very clean, minimalist, and spacious. I loved the monochrome theme, which was very pleasing to the eye, and honestly, it made me want to give my room a makeover.

The first thing I wanted to check out were the storage options - which were plenty. There were lots of space under the bed to store your bags or luggage, as well as numerous shelves to place your belongings. The only downside to living here is that there's not much space to hang your clothes. There's no wardrobe or cupboard, so you'll have to make do with this rack and the little hangers. It's not too bad if you're here just for a staycation, but if you're a foreign student in Singapore (which I am), you may need much more space for your clothes.

There's no TV in the room, and the place where the TV would have been placed was replaced by this message board. The picture below shows the work desk with a chair, notepad, and other amenities like an electronic kettle and two cups.

I didn't like the chair as it was not the most comfortable, so I spent most of my time working on the bed. A bed table was provided in the room, so I used that while doing work or watching Netflix.

The sink is separate from the bathroom, and there's a long rectangular mirror above it. I like having the sink in the bedroom because I'm a neat freak and tend to wash my hands a lot, so it was nice having the sink nearby.

Speaking of the bathroom, it was straightforward with a neat design. There was a rain shower as well as amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Also, toothbrushes are provided at lyf Funan, but you'll have to request them at the counter.

The scenery from level 8 is quite lovely as you have a view of Clarke Quay, the colourful shophouses, and some tall buildings.

If you want to do laundry, you can do so at the level 4 laundromat. It costs about S$8 total to wash your clothes and have them dried. You can pay via your credit or debit card to use the laundry services.

I had a great time at lyf Funan Singapore because the room was homey, and there were many facilities and amenities here. The staff were also amicable and patient in answering our queries. It was also tranquil at night, and the room's walls were pretty soundproof - we didn't hear any weird noises, and the residents generally kept to themselves, and we didn't really see them around, except at the lobby.

I liked the hotel's location as well because it's located at Funan, which has lots of activities and food options. You can even catch a midnight movie if you'd like and don't need to worry about cabbing home since you can just head straight to lyf Funan!

As a foreign student, my experience here actually made me consider renting a room here in the future. I liked the room, the environment, location, and facilities. Of course, the rent is relatively high, but if there's a good deal in the future, I wouldn't think twice before jumping on it!
