Hey, Faithfuls! Eating in the CBD can get pricey, and while I don’t work there, I do drop by occasionally to run errands or squeeze in a workout. Recently, I was invited to Fun Wan, a cosy spot in Tanjong Pagar that serves up hearty, homely zi char bowls. Conveniently located just a short four-minute walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT Station, Fun Wan also has a second outlet at CIMB Plaza.

The space sports a modern and minimalist vibe, with comfy blue cushioned seats, charging ports to power up your devices, and a welcoming atmosphere—perfect for a quick recharge before heading back to work.

Fun Wan offers a Build Your Fun Wan (S$11.90) option, where you can customise your bowl with a choice of rice, protein, and sauce. Otherwise, you can select from one of their six pre-set bowls. Each comes with achar, egg, and seasonal vegetables, making it a well-balanced, satisfying meal.

Ordering is straightforward with their self-ordering kiosk or via a QR code from your table. To avoid the lunch rush, you can even order ahead for pick-up or opt for delivery.

We tried the Prawn Paste Chicken Rice (S$10.90), which featured crispy, well-seasoned chicken paired with carbs of your choice.

I went for the Curry Chicken Rice Set (S$10.90), and it didn’t disappoint. The curry came with a whole chicken leg and tender potatoes, all smothered in a rich, thick gravy.

It had a pleasant spice that built up gradually, and the chicken was moist and easy to cut through.

For just an additional S$3, you can add a soup of the day—like old cucumber or white radish—and desserts! Fun Wan has partnered with Rempapa to offer freshly made kueh, including kueh kosui and kueh salat, which were a lovely sweet finish to the meal.

The complimentary, free-flow Cold Brew Tea that you can dispense on your own was a refreshing palate cleanser, perfect for washing down the rich flavours.

Considering its CBD location, Fun Wan offers affordable, hearty meals around the S$10 range, which is impressive for the area. Portions were generous, even for big eaters. I’ll definitely be back to try their DIY bowls next time!
