Munchi Pancakes Review: Cheap Bottled Matcha Lattes & Apple Cheese Pancakes

Hey, Faithfuls! I’ve been a huge fan of Munchi Pancakes for the longest time—I literally live in Simei, so I swing by their shop whenever I’m craving their min jiang kueh. It’s one of those comfort snacks I never get sick of. So when I found out they were collaborating with Sei-Cha Matcha to launch bottled matcha drinks, I was very excited.

Prices start from $4.80 for the Original Matcha Latte, and it comes in a sealed can, so you can keep it in case you're not feeling like having caffeine right now. And these matcha lattes aren’t limited-time! They’re here to stay and are currently available at Munchi Pancakes outlets in Guoco, Causeway Point, and The Star Vista.

FYI, each matcha can is made with 6g of ceremonial-grade matcha powder, and uses Sei-Cha Matcha's own creamy milk blend! The Original Matcha Latte was solid. It tasted like what you’d expect from a decent cafe, like earthy, slightly bitter with nice umami notes, balanced out by the milk.

Their Earl Grey Matcha Latte leaned a bit on the lighter side. The Earl Grey notes were quite subtle, and I wish the tea flavour came through stronger. I mean, it was still pleasant, but not the most memorable for me. And then I had the Biscoff Matcha Latte, and it was AMAZING. Definitely on the sweeter side, but the combination works so well. You get the earthy depth of matcha paired with that caramelised, spiced Biscoff flavour, almost like a dessert in a drink.

Munchi Pancakes also sent over their traditional min jiang kueh, where you can choose from different skins: Original, Charcoal, or Green Tea. The Peanut Min Jiang Kueh ($2.40) with Original skin was defo classic done right. The peanut filling had that perfect sweet-salty balance, paired with the chewy pancake base and bits of crunchy peanuts. It tasted super nostalgic for reallll.

Meanwhile, their Black Sesame Min Jiang Kueh ($2.90) with Charcoal skin had a deeper, more intense flavour. The black sesame filling was rich, nutty, and slightly earthy with a subtle bitterness that balances out the sweetness. The charcoal skin added a slight toastiness, making it feel a bit more elevated compared to the classic peanut!

I also got to try a whole range of their Munchi pancakes. Apparently, their Apple Cheese Munchi ($3.20) is back by popular demand and is now a permanent flavour. The apple filling had a warm, cinnamon-spiced note that reminded me of apple pie, while the cheese added a light savoury contrast.

The Thai Milk Tea Munchi with Charcoal skin was a fun one. Once you tear it open, the thick, dark orange Thai milk tea filling literally oozes out, and I took so many pictures of it.

A favourite among my colleagues was the Earl Grey Munchi with Original skin, as it had a fragrant mix of Earl Grey tea and white chocolate sandwiched between soft, fluffy pancakes. The floral tea notes paired nicely with the sweetness of the chocolate, too!

Personally, I enjoyed the Matcha Munchi with Green Tea skin the most. Matcha lovers will defo appreciate this! The filling is made with quality green tea and white chocolate, giving it a creamy, slightly bittersweet profile. Paired with the green tea skin, it’s matcha on matcha, but it kinda worked out.

Munchi really went all out cos they sent so many items, and I ended up sharing them with my colleagues. Everyone had their own favourite, which just shows how wide and appealing their range is! Between the affordable bottled matcha and their already solid lineup of pancakes, there’s honestly something for everyone here.
