Room Makeover With Things From Taobao, Shopee, & Daiso

small room makeover with things from taobao, shopee, daiso

So I've finally moved out of the hell that was staying in NUS and went to find my own sweet little space. After listing like crazy on places like Gumtree and Rent In Singapore, I finally found someone who was willing to rent me a room in central Singapore at just $600/ a month.

I've been living in my new place for about a month now, and everything is going pretty well. Unlike most places, I can cook, wash my clothes, and turn on my aircon whenever I want. I also have my own personal bathroom and fridge! The only complaint is that my landlords can be pretty intrusive since they're really old and kepo, but I'm slowly learning to deal with that.

The room is also really, really small, but I don't really need a lot of space. I also don't mind living in a mini room since I stay with my boyfriend 4 out of 7 days a week, and a small room is cosy and easy to clean.

When I first moved in, I was really enthusiastic about decorating the place, so I bought a bunch of shit on Taobao, Daiso and Shopee. The total cost was about $250++ for everything I bought.

One thing I REALLY wanted was to buy was a white furry carpet. My room's flooring is dark brown and dark colours tend to make small spaces look EVEN smaller. I also drop hair like no one's business, so I wanted to be able to SEE my hair on a white surface so that I could pick it up. I found a cute white carpet on Taobao for $23.31 and after laying it out my room looks brighter and happier. LOL.

As a girl, I really love having fairy lights. I hate to be cliche and basic like everyone else, but fairy lights is just something that I like having in my room because it makes everything pretty at night. I got all my fairy lights on sale at Typo for $5 during a sale. Pro tip: NEVER buy fairy lights if they cost over $10. You can get them for less than $10 on Taobao or just wait for Typo to have a sale.

I also always wanted a pretty mirror with those rounded LED lights, so I bought the mirror and lights on Taobao (separately) for $21.06. If you were going to buy the same lights anywhere else, it would cost you double the price. At IKEA, a mirror itself would already be $21.06.

I didn't want to hang my mirror so I placed it on the carpeted floor along with some decorations from Typo and Daiso. If you look around closely, Daiso does have some pretty decorations!

I also really wanted a grid frame to hang on the wall. You can find grid frames of all sizes at Daiso for $2 but there aren't any grid baskets. For the grid baskets, I ordered a few from Taobao for just $1.96 per basket which is slightly cheaper than the ones you find at Daiso.

For my Marshall speaker, I actually had it since my days in Hall but I just had to mention it here because I got it at such at awesome price. If there's one thing I learned about electronics, it's that you should just buy them from the official stores online because buying online is so much cheaper. In stores, my Marshall Acton II speakers go for freaking $419. I got mine during a sale and after using tons of vouchers for just $259. Now that's called saving money!

Having a cute, organised workspace is also something that is really important to me. Almost all my organisers are bought on Daiso with the exception of this $4.53 earring stand from Shopee. I actually saw the EXACT same earring stand in some mall before and it was being sold for $15. SCAMMMMM!

Some other important things to buy are wall hooks and hangers. I also included a second picture of my fairy lights here so you can get a closer look at the pretty ombre lights! One thing you should never buy cheap is wall hooks because cheap ones just don't work. The wall hooks at NTUC can be pricey but I've found them to be the most reliable ones; the rest just drop off and your decorations will drop everywhere and get damaged.

I have a shit ton of clothes - so much that it's enough to open a store - so I needed to get hangers too. While browsing on Taobao, I found these really cool hangers that allow you to hang a few pieces of clothing at once. Now I don't have to hang my clothes on individual hooks, and I get to save a lot of space!

So as you can see, shopping is really fun and cheap when you know how to do it right. I can't remember the last time I actually bought from a physical store because I now know that you can find everything for much cheaper online.

It's much more worth buying on Taobao only if you're buying multiple big, heavy items. For smaller items, Shopee would suffice. If you don't have a Shopee account, you can sign up now using my referral code FAITH533 to get $10 off your first order!

Shop smart and shop happy! See you next post~
