The Fullerton Bay Hotel Staycation Review: Premier Bay View Room

Fullerton Bay Hotel Staycation Review

WOOHOOOO it's finally staycation time!

A few months ago I booked a staycation with The Fullerton Hotel when they were having a 1-For-1 Room Nights Deal. Thanks to that amazing promo, my boyfriend and I got 2 nights at The Fullerton Hotel at just $588.50 for 2 nights. Unfortunately with the Circuit Breaker and all that, our staycation had to be postponed and we changed the date twice, so when the confirmed date finally arrived (31 July-2 August), I was really excited.

A week before the staycation at The Fullerton Hotel my boyfriend received a call asking if we wanted to be upgraded to The Fullerton Bay Hotel. We've already stayed at The Fullerton Hotel before for my birthday so we told the management that we didn't mind changing hotels provided that the room we got had a bay view. THEY ACCEPTED OUR REQUEST and offered us the Premier Bay View Room. We were super excited! Without being upgraded and without any promotions, a normal night at The Fullerton Bay Hotel starts at $530++ a night, and our room would have cost about $801++ a night.

So we checked in on a Friday afternoon at 3pm and had our car parked at the One Fullerton Carpark. Parking is free for all guests staying at the hotel! It's quite a distance walking from the carpark to the main lobby and under the hot sun some more, but we eventually reached in about 5 minutes.

The nice lady at the check-in counter explained to us about the perks we had which included a complimentary welcome cocktail each, 30% off a la carte menu items at Fullerton dining outlets and being able to enjoy facilities from The Fullerton Hotel. This last point was because we had to book timings for the gym and pool due to social distancing (and not everyone would be able to get a slot), so the management allowed us to use the gym at The Fullerton Hotel when it was vacant. My boyfriend was telling me that we wouldn't be getting these perks (including the upgrade from The Fullerton Hotel to The Fullerton Bay) if we didn't book a room directly with the hotel. Maybe this in something we should take into consideration the next time we book a staycation - always book directly with the hotel because you'll be given better treatment and more perks!

The Premier Bay View Room at The Fullerton Bay Hotel

So we entered our room and myyyyy was the Premier Bay View Room gorgeous! We had everything in the room - even things we didn't think we needed - such as a Nespresso machine, Harman Kardon speaker as well as cups and glasses of all sizes. Also, finally a room that has a bottle opener!

The mini bar looks super fancy but honestly it's best not to touch anything there because a can of Coke is literally $10. I'm not kidding.

Being a cheapo, the first thing I did was go straight to see their vanity kit because you know, I wanted to see what was worth taking
the fullerton bay hotel vanity kit
He he.

The vanity kit was bomb and had all sorts of stuff like mouthwash, a hair ring (hair tie basically), comb, sewing kit and all that.

And omg the bathroom - the bathroom was so pretty and literally the prettiest bathroom I've ever seen. First, it has a rain shower. Second, it has a big ass bathtub with Pink Himalayan bath soap and a freakin' TV so you can soak and keep yourself entertained. Whaaaaaat?

Third, there's a wide mirror so all you vain hoes can spend all the time in the world taking mirror selfies. The lighting is on point, and there's even a LED mirror that you can use when putting on makeup. The shower and bathtub has its own set of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body gel so you don't need 2 people sharing a set of shower stuff. Plus the soap brand is Balmain ok, super attas stuff and has a store at MBS.

Our room also had an executive work desk just in front of the balcony. I actually had a e-paper to sit for the next day so can you imagine how cool I felt sippin' on my freshly made Nespresso coffee with Marina Bay Sands in the background while I type the "5 symptoms of anxiety" into my keyboard.

Of course, Wifi is free and you can connect automatically without keying in anything, and there's also a bunch of charging ports on the wall beside your desk so you can charge everything, even your soul. It does charge a bit slowly though, but not complaining!

Oh and the room is super, super soundproof so we could blast music and do literally whatever the heck we wanted to without getting reported. Heh.

The facilities at The Fullerton Bay Hotel

The Fullerton Bay Hotel has a gym, spa, a few pools as well as numerous fine dining restaurants. We didn't get to use the gym because it was fully booked, but we did get to use the pool twice - once at night and the second time in the evening.

They gym is supposed to have a cap of 4 people at a time, and for the pool it was supposed to be 30 people. But from the looks of it, it didn't really seem that the staff were too strict about social distancing and many guests just stayed as long as they wanted.

I loved the pool and had a great time the first night when it was basically just me and my boyfriend. There was a normal adult pool and 2 jacuzzis. The normal pool is pretty meh, but from the jacuzzi you can see Singapore's skyline and it was beautiful! It wasn't so enjoyable in the evening because there was SO MANY PEOPLE (pretentious spray tanned Asians with their angmoh boyfriends) and they kept hogging (and snogging in) the jacuzzis for hours on end. You'd think this was a 5-star hotel so these full-grown adults would try to be classy about stuff but everyone was literally so pretentious that I was like omg. stop.

Honestly with all those expats and girls prancing around taking selfies in bikinis, for a moment I thought I was in Bali sia!

The only good thing about that evening swim was being able to enjoy our complimentary welcome drink which was the Fullerton Merlion Cocktail. It's valued at $21 and has tequila, lime juice, grenadine syrup, ginger and egg white. The cocktail was very refreshing and zesty, and even made me a bit tipsy after a few sips LOL.

The Fullerton Bay Hotel has a few restaurants - La Brasserie, The Landing Point, The Clifford Pier and Lantern (which was closed when we were there). Aside from La Brasserie we didn't try any of the other restaurants but I've been to The Landing Point for their chocolate buffet and it was amazing! We didn't go for the breakfast buffet because the staff told us that it was $45++ per person (which could be better spent elsewhere) and based on our experience with Fullerton breakfasts it hasn't really been the best.

In-room dining is also available but the menu is damn expensive since the food comes from La Brasserie. But I mean if you're going to eat in your room, just order something from Food Panda or Deliveroo lah, it's so much cheaper.

The food at The Fullerton Bay Hotel

This was my second time eating at La Brasserie and it really didn't let me down. The Fullerton Burger ($38) was quite good but both my boyfriend and I agreed that the ones he made were better! He also ordered the Fish and Chips ($39) and according to him it was "not bad". Even though the taste was just okay, I really appreciated the service and the food portions were really generous. We also had complimentary starters which was like a few pieces of really good bread with butter and duck??? spread. It was really filling and we couldn't finish it so we had to dabao it back.

I also loved the ambience at La Brasserie because the walls were transparent and you could dine while taking in the breathtaking view of the bay.

The restaurants around The Fullerton Bay Hotel

We actually spent most of our time trying meals at MBS. My sister recommended this place called Black Tap which is a burger restaurant at the entrance of The Shoppes. You'll see it on your right immediately after you do your SafeEntry.
black tap review
Black Tap is very popular New York chain so you'll need to make a reservation. The flow of people in and out is constant and it's a very kid friendly place so expect toddlers running around and shouting all the time. The overall vibe of the place is very lively and noisy, so it was a bit overwhelming for me.
black tap old fashioned review
We ordered 2 burgers - The Old Fashioned ($23) and The Texan Burger ($25). The Old Fashioned is a simple burger for mushroom lovers decked with shiitake mushrooms, a whole load of swiss cheese, caramelized onion and horseradish sauce. The beef patty felt a little dry for me despite it being medium-well, but it still tasted flavourful and easy to eat. The fries were great - thick and crisp and went so well with the sauce which was sour and sweet with a bit of spice.

My boyfriend's Texan Burger had prime burger, aged cheddar, crispy onion ring, bacon, sweet baby rays bbq, and mayo. It was on the saltier side but super juicy, and my boyfriend loved it. We also ordered one of their crazyshakes to share - the Cakeshake ($22) with lots of whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles and cookie crumbles. Looked gorgeous but incredibly hard to eat! Despite how diabetic it looked, it also wasn't too sweet but was incredibly gao. We definitely made a mess after that and apologised to the waiter, to which he replied "Don't worry, we're used to this". Jiayou fam.

Aside from Black Tap we also made a trip down to Tim Ho Wan and enjoyed their amazing Michelin-Starred Pork Buns. If you haven't tried them, you need to, like NOW. I usually don't like pork buns because it's fatty and sweet (which is gross to me), but these Tim Ho Wan ones were so so so good. Sweet and crisp on the outside and once you bite into it your mouth is greeted by a savoury burst of soft pork meat. I've never tasted anything better.

If you don't want to walk all the way to MBS, you can dine at the numerous restaurants and cafes at One Fullerton. I recommend Overeasy for those of you who are into burgers and shakes, and I love Overeasy because it gives off mad Riverdale vibes. If you prefer Chinese food or hot pot, try the Little Sheep Hot Pot. You can read my review of it here.

The service at The Fullerton Bay Hotel

I loved my stay at The Fullerton Bay hotel also because of the great service we enjoyed there. Of course no service tops the one I experienced at The Outpost Hotel, but the staff at The Fullerton Bay were also very polite, friendly, and efficient.

One thing that surprised my boyfriend and I was the very subtle and almost ghost-like service that the room service provided. We would leave our room to go swim or take a walk and when we came back the sheets would be done, our clothes neatly folded into a pile, and all our amenities replenished from the tissue rolls to the shampoo bottles. They even gave us complimentary Fullerton chocolate every day!

A luxurious getaway at The Fullerton Bay Hotel

I'm really sad that my staycation is over because I don't know when is the next time I'll get to stay at The Fullerton Bay Hotel again. Their rates are usually very high and this promotion was such as steal. If you do book a staycation here, expect only the best and remember to get a room with the view! Also remember to book directly with the hotel so you can enjoy all the great perks!

I also made a short video of my stay, feel free to watch it ;)
