Lunch And Afternoon Tea Review At TWG MBS

twg mbs review

Time for another food review! This time I visited TWG (The Wellbeing Group) at Marina Bay Sands, and it was actually my very first time dining there. Anyone would know that TWG is super popular, and even during Covid, the queue at MBS is always super long. They don't even take reservations!

Since I really wanted to try it out, I actually queued and finally got to enter after 1 hour. Is the food really that good and are the teas as awesome as people say? 1 hour is a long time to queue for food, so let's see if TWG is worth it!

I do like the ambience at TWG Marina Bay Sands because it looks really classy, which means you may look out of place wearing a shirt and shorts. Everyone was dressed properly, and the places was mostly filled by couples and groups of girlfriends. The lighting at TWG was already on point, which was great because I could take a lot of nice pictures for IG, hehe

Here's what we ordered:

  • Genmaicha Mushroom Linguine ($24)
  • Beef Lasagna
  • Club Sandwich ($24)
  • Scones, 2 pcs ($9.50)
  • Hawaiian Breeze Mocktail ($11)
  • Earl Grey Tea + cake set ($20)
  • Breakfast Earl Grey Tea ($10)

One unique thing about the food at TWG is that almost everything has tea in it, from the appetisers to the mains and the drinks - duh. If you're a tea lover, you will appreciate this.
twg tea infused bread
Before the mains were served, we were given some tea-infused bread for starters. The bread came with genmaicha butter spread with tea leaves which looks weird at first but once you pair it with the bread it tastes heavenly! There's a sort of saltiness to the butter, and the tea leaves gave it a crunchy texture.

Our drinks came next, which was the Early Grey Teas and Hawaiian Breeze Mocktail. The Earl Grey Tea came together with a cake for $20, so we asked for the cake to be served later.

The Earl Grey Teas were really good - light, refreshing, with a bit of zest. The Breakfast Earl Grey Tea had more of a kick to it since it's meant to be consumed in the morning, and the "afternoon" one was milder. The Hawaiian Breeze Mocktail was like a juice - sour with some hints of pineapple, but you could also taste the coconut flavour.

For mains, I ordered the Beef Lasagna. The lasagna was actually not bad and was super filling despite its size. I won't say it blew me away, but it was rather tasty and had a generous amount of homemade tomato and basil sauce infused with Moroccan Mint Tea - which was the most deelish part of the dish. I did find the bolognese ragout to be a little on the dryer side though.
twg tea mains
Out of all the mains, the best was the Genmaicha Mushroom Linguine. The dish came with sauteed forest mushrooms, wilted spinach, roasted asparagus, soft cooked egg topped with Genmaicha furikake, as as well a light garlic and cream sauce. I love creamy pasta, so this one was a delight for me and when I broke the egg, the whole dish tasted even richer.

We also had the Club Sandwich - a hearty meal with slow-cooked chicken breast layered with fried egg and smoked veal bacon, Roma tomatoes and lettuce chiffonade. It also came with green salad and 1837 Green tea-infused vinaigrette. We had the lowest expectations for this one since it was just sandwiches, but the Club Sandwich surprised us because it packed a punch of flavours.
twg scones and cake
Lastly for desserts, we ordered some scones and had a chocolate cake (that came with the tea set). I felt like the scones lacked fragrance and had a taste that was too mild, but was alright once paired with the sweet TWG Tea Jelly and whipped cream. The chocolate cake was good and wasn't too sweet, though quite dense. The top layer of chocolate was delicious and rich, but the layers in between were dry. I couldn't really taste the tea in it as well.

I enjoyed my time at TWG and personally feel that it was worth the 1 hour queue. It probably depends on what you order because some dishes are much better than others, but these "others" aren't bad as well. Of course, the teas were great - after all, it is their specialty - and I loved their concept of infusing tea into everything they serve. It's also worth mentioning that the service at TWG is great and the staff are alert and friendly. But if you still can't stand the idea of queuing so long, one tip would be to go during weekdays and off-peak hours. Hopefully there will be less people then!

See you next post ~
