Hey friends, how has everyone been doing! Hope the pandemic is treating you well. I have been staying home quite often and have been decreasing the number of social activities. However, I still try to go out for a nice dinner once a week so I can update you guys on the cool new places in Singapore! Most recently, I visited Mama Diam, this really cool bar hidden behind a fake mama shop.

You may have seen Mama Diam on social media because they are really popular and the place is buzzing with customers. I made a reservation for my boyfriend and I weeks in advance on a Friday night as it was fully booked before that.

Mama Diam is really impressive because the fake mama shop looks so real. There are also seats outside with people dressed in tees and shorts, so if you didn't know about the hidden bar, you would never have guessed that there was more to this place. We went up to the mama stall and scrutinized the details, and I have to tell you, it's really well done. You can also request to have your picture taken inside. Look how cute!

Once our seats were ready, we were ushered inside. The inside was like a completely different vibe from the outside - it was a sleek, modern, and dimly-lit bar. It actually wasn't a very big place, but there were mirrors on the walls, creating the illusion of a big space.

We walked past the very happening bar to our high table. I was happy to be seated here as it was quite cosy and away from the crowd. Our waiter was very friendly and served us some water, as passed the menu.

The menu featured lots of fusion food and we were very curious about the menu items! In all honestly, we ordered the dishes based on how curious we were about the dish. Our first main was the Zha Jiang Mian Linguine (S$13), a Vegetarian dish with umami-packed fermented bean sauce, firm tofu, and shiitake mushrooms. I thought this dish was alright. The pasta itself tasted a bit undercooked, but I liked the sweetness of the sauce and the mushrooms. I also felt the portion was a little undersized.

My boyfriend got the Herbal Bak Kut Teh Udon (S$15) with herbal broth, prime spare ribs, tau pok cubes, and enoki mushroom. I really liked this dish, even more than mine actually! The broth was very flavourful and strong, and the udon itself was soft and chewy. The meat cubes were big and chunky as well. Compared to my dish, the udon was a lot more delicious and had a bigger portion too.

As I was still hungry, we both decided to try Mama Diam's 9 Bites Of Wonder (S$38) which was something like a high tea set. It consisted of nine savoury bites such Crab Kueh Pie Tee, Oyster Casino, Butter Boxing Chicken, and Pork Belly Char Siew Tacos.

Before leaving the restaurant, we were given a special gift from the restaurant - a cute country eraser like the ones we collected as kids, and a bubble glue kit! We were also given a free ice pop each.

Mama Diam is a unique place and I like their dining concept. I believe they have a lot of potential to be more than just a bar people know from Instagram. I also see it becoming our frequent dining spot. Once we left, my boyfriend immediately told me that he wanted to come back again!

If you do visit, just make sure that you make a reservation in advance. I hope you'll enjoy your experience here as much as I did. Thanks for reading, and see you next post!
