Camaya Bali @ Selat Review: Magical Bali Bamboo House

by - April 30, 2023

Hey, Faithfuls! I just came back from my trip to Bali, and I miss it so much! It was a last-minute, very impromptu trip that my boyfriend and I decided to go on because our initial travel plans didn't come through. Since we were both a few months into our first job, we decided we had a good excuse to splurge a little more in Bali.

My boyfriend was eyeing this very unique, Instagram-viral Airbnb villa called Camaya Bali, and was whining about wanting to stay there for God knows how long, so we actually decided to stay there for a few days. It was hella expensive—about S$400 per night and this man wanted to stay for two nights. So we did.

BTW, Camaya Bali was also featured on Netflix's World's Most Amazing Vacation Rentals!

Camaya Bali is located in Selat, which is about a two-hour drive—or three-hour drive, with bad traffic—out from Kuta. We liaised with our host Made over the Airbnb app to hire a private car to drive us to the villa. It cost ~S$52 (Rp 600k) one-way, which is pricey, yes, but the drive there is hard and long-winding. We even tipped our driver an extra Rp100k. Do note that you can only pay your driver in cash.

Our check-in time was 2pm, and we arrived to a warm welcome from Putu and Agung. They offered us our welcome drinks and then showed us to our villa.

Our villa is called Lotus, and it consists of two villas—one main villa and a smaller one. It can actually house four people.

We slept mainly at the bigger villa. There's a fridge, a safe, towels, mosquito netting, charging ports, and shower amenities. The WiFi here is quite good too.

The small villa is half the size and basically is the size of one king bed. It's pretty cosy though!

Each villa has a separate bathroom and shower. The shower is interesting because it doesn't have a ceiling, so you're essentially showering "outdoors". There's a heater here, so don't worry about not having hot water!

Our private compound also has a jacuzzi overlooking the beautiful terraced hills. It also lights up at night and looks absolutely magical. There's also a sheltered outdoor dining area where you can have meals, and a bonfire pit.

Also... look at the hammock! The hammock can seat two people.

Camaya Bali has laundry service as well, and they charge a fee depending on the type of clothes to be washed. We washed about 16 items comprising cardigans, shirts, dresses, underwear and pants, and it only cost ~S$7 (Rp 80k).

During our stay, we actually experienced a pretty heavy storm on our first night and a sky full of stars on our second night. The bug situation is okay when there's no rain, and you don't have to worry about too many mosquitoes. There are spiders, lizards, flies, and geckos tho, and these geckos poop all over the floor. The spiders are scary and huge but harmless. The bug situation only gets pretty intense when it rains because that's when all the creepy crawlies come indoors, and then the next morning, you'd wake up to hundreds of dead bugs all over the floor. The staff are used to this, though, and they will help you clean up.

Our meals are mainly supplied from the kitchen. To order, you'll have to WhatsApp the kitchen your orders and the time that you want to have the meal sent down. This applies to breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's hard to get food from elsewhere as Camaya Bali is pretty secluded, but if you need something, you can always ask the staff, and they can go out and buy it for you. In our case, we had all our meals at the villa.

The food here was actually pretty good! Breakfast is complimentary and comprises a set menu where you can choose from the Camaya Breakfast (essentially English breakfast), assorted pastries, granola and yoghurt, a smoothie bowl, and crepes. You can also get tea, coffee, or juice.

During our first day, we opted for the Floating Breakfast, which costs ~S$17 (Rp 200k) per couple. This floating breakfast was served in a basket and placed in the jacuzzi for us to enjoy and take a whole lot of aesthetic pictures! The Floating Breakfast comprises more items from the menu.

We order our meals for lunch and dinner from a separate menu. The menu largely serves Indonesian and Western food, and we found their carbonara to be splendid!

bonfire

Remember the bonfire pit? You can call the kitchen down, and they'll set up the fire for you. This is free, but you can also pay ~S$15 (Rp 180k) for marshmallows and hot chocolate. Get it. It's super worth it.

There are lots of other activities you can do here, including a Sunda Hill tour (~S$16/Rp 300k per person), where you can hike to a photogenic spot to see the sunrise. There's also a Camaya trekking activity, private yoga lessons, board games for rent, and special sessions with a spiritual healer. Just pick your poison.

If you own a drone, you're allowed to fly them here between 8am to 9am. It's also only allowed inside the designated zone in front of your house. We actually brought our relatively cheap drone along to have some fun during this trip, but we lost it, and it fell into a ditch, never to be seen again...

After three amazing days at Camaya Bali, it was finally time to leave! We made the payments for our meals and the activities we had and then waited for our assigned driver to pick us up and send us to our next villa at Kuta. Putu and Agung were there to send us off, and we thanked them for the amazing time we had during our stay.

Our stay at Camaya Bali was really magical, and it was the highlight of my trip to Bali. If you want to experience another side of Bali, I highly recommend staying here and experiencing it for yourself.

That's all for today; thanks for reading and see you next post!
