LaPasta Review: Authentic Pasta with Unlimited Cheese @ Orchard Towers
Hey Faithfuls! Everyone has a Roman Empire, and mine happens to be this tiny pasta place that my boyfriend and I cannot stop thinking about. Really want to gatekeep LaPasta, but I can't!! It's a humble, no-frills 14-seater pasta restaurant tucked away in Orchard Towers. Blink, and you might miss it, which is actually what happened to me.
My boyfriend and I literally stumbled upon it while wandering around Orchard Towers out of pure curiosity. We spotted this cosy hole-in-the-wall with warm lighting, thought it looked ridiculously cute, and noticed there was a free table. One look at each other and we were like, okay, why not? Best spontaneous decision ever.
My gripe is that the place is a bit of a squeeze, so you may be seated really close to random strangers, which is NOT ideal for date night (though I did book this place for Valentine's Day next year). Not sure if you can tell from the pics I took, but the place is SMALL—so don't bring a sneaky link or an affair partner like the guy in red is probably doing, because you WILL be caught in pictures. Also, sir, not everything is about you 🤡.
We started with the Secret Chicken (S$15.90). Think chunky, karaage-style fried chicken served with a tartare dip that’s sweet and tangy. The chicken itself was light, slightly crunchy, and very juicy. Nothing wildly revolutionary, but still solidly delicious and comforting. It’s the kind of starter you’ll happily polish off without realising how fast it’s gone.
They also have seasonal appetisers, and one of their popular items is the truffle tater tots: crispy tots tossed with truffle oil and parmesan, served with a creamy sauce on the side. If you’re a truffle lover, this is definitely one to look out for.
For mains, we tried a few pasta dishes, starting with the Campanelle Amatriciana (S$25). The fresh campanelle pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. The sauce was a classic combination of Italian tomato, bacon, and onions, rich yet balanced.
Next was the Pesto e Basilico Burratina (S$30.90). The moment it arrived, the aroma of basil hit us immediately. This leaned much closer to an authentic Italian-style pesto, which is generally saltier, more herb-forward, and less creamy than the versions we usually get in Singapore that are heavy on nuts and cream. If you enjoy bold, unapologetic flavours, this one really stands out.
We also shared the Campanelle al Tartufo (S$29), featuring fresh campanelle with black truffle, mushrooms, and cream. It was rich without being overly heavy, with generous truffle throughout. Slightly jelak towards the end, but honestly, I love creamy pasta, so this hit the spot.
One of LaPasta’s highlights is their unlimited free cheese. They freshly grate it right in front of you, and you literally tell them when to stop, which is dangerous in the best way possible. The staff here are incredibly friendly too, the kind that makes you feel immediately at ease, like you’re dining at a friend’s place rather than a restaurant.
Because seating is extremely limited, I’d strongly recommend making a reservation before heading down! Thanks for reading, and see you next post.
