Breakfast Grill Review: Cheese Sandwiches @ East Coast

Hey, Faithfuls! So, I was wandering around Katong the other day and stumbled upon this spot called Breakfast Grill. It’s known for its thick, super-cheesy sandwiches that won’t break the bank—always a win in my book!

The vibe inside is minimalist, with clean white interiors. Surprisingly, it was relatively empty on a weekend afternoon, probably because it’s tucked away from the main hustle and bustle of Katong. But don’t let that fool you—there was still a steady stream of people popping in for a bite.

One thing I really liked was how spaced-out the seating is. You can easily have a good chat with your friend without feeling like you’re being overheard by the whole cafe.

Now, let’s get into the food! I ordered the Croque Monsieur (S$13), which comes with honey-glazed ham, baked organic portobello, and house-made mustard mayonnaise. It might not look like the heartiest sandwich at first glance, but trust me, it’s super satisfying. The cheese was just oozing all over the sandwich, and when I pulled the halves apart, there was that perfect cheese pull moment that every cheese lover dreams of.

My dining partner went for the Cali (S$14.50), which is a spicy treat with lean beef, American cheddar, pickles, and their special sauce. It’s not as fiery as a McSpicy, but it has a nice, mild kick. The beef was incredibly umami, packed with savoury goodness. The cheddar added a rich creaminess that balanced the spices perfectly, making each bite deliciously addictive.

When it comes to drinks, they have coffee, but I’m a matcha girl through and through, so I had to try their Dirty Matcha (S$7.50). It’s got that classic matcha flavour—milky with a grassy, slightly earthy undertone. The matcha was smooth, not too bitter, and had a nice balance with the milk. If you’re a matcha fan like me, it’s definitely worth a try.

Breakfast Grill is a cosy spot that feels like a hidden gem, perfect for when you want a peaceful place to enjoy a good sandwich. The prices are really reasonable too, especially considering the quality. They’re also open every day from 8am, even on Mondays!

Thanks for reading, and see you next post.
