Monday Blues @ Geylang: Cloudy Waffles Cafe Food Review

by - September 15, 2021

Hey friends! So Squid Game is all the rage now and many cafes are hopping on the bandwagon with their Squid Game-related marketing campaigns such as the ddakji or honeycomb challenge. One such cafe is Brown Butter that went viral for its honeycomb challenge. Unfortunately, they only host this challenge on weekdays and it is so effing crowded all the time, so I decided to visit this other cafe called Monday Blues instead. They also have the Squid Game honeycomb challenge and the place is much less crowded. They also have amazing cloud waffles!

Monday Blues is located at Geylang at the nearest MRT station is Paya Lebar, which is about a 7-minute walk away. The cafe is very minimalist and simple, and there were not many customers there. One interesting thing to note is that they are open until 3am daily!

To take part in their 'Squid Game Honeycomb Challenge', all you need to do is purchase any classic or cloudy waffle to get a chance to participate in it. You are given a time limit of 2 minutes to cut out the complete shape. If you complete it, you will have a chance to join a lucky draw, and if you fail, you simply have to post a photo of yourself on Instagram and tag a friend and the cafe @mondayblues.sg.

We went to the counter and ordered the Cloudy Waffle (S$14.90) with two scoops of gelatos - Salted Caramel and Earl Grey. While waiting for the waffles, we played the honeycomb challenge first!

So this challenge was much more challenging than I thought it would be. The dalgona was quite thick and the toothpicks kept breaking every time I tried to poke a hole! Ultimately I failed, but we continued trying to get the shape out even after the time ran out.

After munching on the dalgona and finishing up all the broken bits, our Cloudy Waffle was finally served! It looked really huge with the rim of cotton candy and we didn't know how to start. The waffles were delicious and crunchy, and I really liked the Earl Grey ice cream flavour. The Salted Caramel was on the stronger side and I felt a little jelak after a while, but the Earl Grey balanced it out.

We also ordered the Dalgona Coffee (S$9.50), which was really strong-flavoured and sweet! The texture was thick as well, and it came in this giant glass. I liked this drink a lot, but I think I would have liked it a lot more if I didn't eat so many sweet things beforehand!

Although my boyfriend and I came to Monday Blues specifically for the Squid Game Honeycomb Challenge, we really enjoyed the desserts here as well. The cloudy waffles were definitely one of the highlights of the place, and anyone with a sweet tooth would be coming back for more.

Also, the Squid Game Honeycomb Challenge will only be available until 31 October 2021, so do make a visit down as soon as you can so you don't miss it.

That's all for today's review, see you next post!
