Ascott Raffles Place Staycation Review: Finlayson Suite
Hey friends! It's been super long since we had a staycation review huh? So today I will be reviewing my most recent staycation which was at Ascott Raffles Place! I am very used to staying in hotels, and this was my boyfriend and I's first time having a staycation in a serviced apartment. Plus, we snagged a really good deal and managed to get the luxurious Finlayson Suite at a great price (around ~S$400). We were excited!
Ascott Raffles Place is located in the heart of the CBD and is just a minute's walk from Raffles Place MRT. We requested an early check-in instead of the usual timing at 3pm, but was told that we would have to just come in and see if the room was available, and there were no guarantees. Lucky for us, our room was ready so we managed to check in two hours earlier!
Here are some images of the Finlayson Suite! As you should be able to tell, it was huge! I was drawn to the living room which had these comfortable sofas by the window. There was even some classical music playing on the speakers when we came in.
I immediately went to check the view and was really happy to see that our room had rather nice scenery as well. We had a clear view of the CBD, the river, and the roads.
Next to the living room was the workspace. The table was large and you could put your laptops, phones, charging cables, magazines, or even luggage on it. There were also multiple charging ports built into the desk, and the cables were neatly concealed.
Moving on to our favourite place - the kitchen! The open-concept kitchen had everything you needed for a two-night staycation. There were pots and pans, cutlery, wine glasses, a fridge, a microwave, and even a dishwasher. We found the space to be a little tight though, and it was difficult when two people were occupying the space. However, it was still a very cosy kitchen and it was nice whipping up meals together. It was also very easy to clean.
The snack bar was very basic and came with a Nespresso machine, Nespresso capsules, TWG tea bags, and even gem biscuits! I loved the gem biscuits and munched on them day and night. Plus, they came in a really big jar.
One of the kitchen cabinets hid a washing machine so we were able to wash our clothes. We were also provided with ample detergent.
Now moving on to the bedroom. The bedroom was very spacious and had floor-to-ceiling cabinets, a TV, and a vanity. From our window, we could peek into the offices opposite us as well. Good thing we had shades for a little privacy!
The bedroom was connected to the bathroom, which led out to the living room. I loved the connectivity! The bathroom was gorgeous and decked in white marble. It also had all the things you needed such as shower amenities, a hair dryer, lots of towels, and even a weighing scale.
The bathroom had a rain shower as well as a bathtub, and these parts of the bathroom were completely black. It was a big contrast from the outer part of the bathroom! I really liked the black colour as it was very soothing and made you want to take a shower all day.
Ascott Raffles Place has a lot of amenities as well, and you don't need to make a booking to use them. The place I frequently visited was the gym as I wanted to burn some calories after eating my boyfriend's creamy pasta all weekend! The gym was quite impressive and it had all the equipment, free weights, and weight machines. I didn't meet a lot of people while I was there, and it was very nice to have the gym all to myself.
The swimming pool was right outside the gym. I guess you can call it an infinity pool, but I wouldn't say it was the nicest pool. I mean, it's alright and the view here is not bad. It was quite small as well but it's not like we did much swimming anyway! We kinda just waddled about. If you're into suntanning you can't do it at the pool as there are no beach chairs here; the suntanning area is at a separate area next to the gym.
There was also a very interesting place called The Living Room. It's supposed to be a socialising space where people can come together and watch TV and read books, but because of the pandemic, you can't do that anymore. You can still come here as a couple to just chill, but I'd rather do it in my own living room.
FYI, I was told that there would be no housekeeping on weekends, but our room was kept on Sundays! There is also breakfast available here for about S$25 but we decided to skip it because online reviews said the breakfast spread was very meh. We ordered delivery for most of our meals, and also had lunch twice at Lau Pa Sat. We even went all the way to Tanjong Pagar one day to get Korean food since the MRT station was so nearby.
Our staycation at Ascott Raffles Place was really great! The Finlayson Suite was so comfortable and spacious, making it a really nice place to stay in. Our bed was so cosy as well and it literally ate us up so we had to drag ourselves out of it in the morning. I think the worst part of this entire staycation experience was the pre-staycation, where we booked our room. The website is absolutely horrible and it's one of the worst hotel websites I've visited. It's hard to access, and at one point we were so sure that it didn't want us to book a stay. But once you get through this, you'll find the staycation itself to be amazing.
That's all for today's review, thanks for reading and see you next post.
