Kamo Soba Keisuke @ Holland Village: Duck Ramen Food Review
Kamo Soba Keisuke has an interesting concept and the staircase leading up to the restaurant is decorated like the Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto. The entrance to the restaurant is also very small and tight, which immediately made us feel like we were in Japan again because the eateries there tend to be cramped.
While we waited, we were given two pieces of paper to write down our order. I got the Duck Broth Ramen (Rich Soup) With Egg (S$16.90) with a choice of normal soup taste, normal flavoured duck oil, and soft noodle texture. My boyfriend ordered the Miso Duck Ramen Special (S$12) with a stronger soup taste, normal flavoured duck oil, and soft noodles.
Our food was served really fast and both our noodles were served at the same time. We didn't even have time to finish peeling the eggs that were served as appetisers!
My Duck Broth Ramen (Rich Soup) With Egg had a very rich and creamy broth, and you could hardly see the contents of the bowl! The soup was also extremely flavourful and the duck oil enhanced the flavour without making everything too salty and oily. The noodles were fantastic - not super soft but chewy and bouncy, and the egg added extra creaminess to the soup.
My boyfriend's Miso Duck Ramen Special had a much stronger and sweeter taste compared to my ramen, which is great for those of you who like intense flavours.
The meatballs were heavenly - they were extremely soft and literally disintegrated in the mouth, and were not salty at all.
Once we were done with this ramen, we added in the Soboro Gohan (Minced Duck Rice) to the broth, stirred everything well and gobbled it up. The result was something saltier compared to the flavour of the ramen (probably due to the minced meat), but the rice was very soft in the broth which made it easy to eat.

The Yuzu Cola had an interesting taste - very sweet and somewhat artificial, but also refreshing. The drink was also a Keisuke product so we were very curious and wanted to try it out, but I probably won't be trying it again!
The food at Kamo Soba Keisuke was really, really good, but I felt that the environment was very busy and was not the best place to come and have a chill dinner. This could largely be due to the fact that we were seated at the counter and could witness the busy ongoings in the kitchen. The staff were friendly and very efficient as well, but sometimes their rushiness stressed me out. They would immediately clear our bowls immediately after we were finished and we would feel bad to linger around without food on the table especially with a long queue piling up at the entrance. BUT I suppose this was also a good strategy to get people to eff off ASAP and increase table turnover since they don't have a large space.
I would definitely come to visit Kamo Soba Keisuke again because the ramen was so good and made the perfect comfort food. The portions are also very generous with reasonable prices, and you can expect to leave the restaurant with a larger tummy.
That's all for today's food review, thanks for reading and see you next post!
