ibis budget Singapore Selegie Staycation Review: Plane Room
Hey friends! I was invited to a staycation at ibis budget Singapore Selegie a few months ago and it was postponed because of #justcovidthings, so I'm really glad that I finally get to blog about it today! ibis budget Singapore is a budget hotel and their main clientele are business travellers, but because of the pandemic, they released a new campaign inviting locals to come and explore Singapore through their staycations.
I have never stayed at budget hotels in Singapore before and my main experience with budget hotels are overseas. So, honestly, I didn't know what to expect. I can already hear many people thinking: "Huh why go budget hotel? Got what to do there?", and that was exactly what I was thought at first.
So to put it out there, the hotel is very simple and there aren't many facilities or amenities inside. The main selling point is actually the location of the hotel and the things to do around it. ibis budget Singapore Selegie is located at - well, Selegie, and it was an area that I wasn't very familiar with. This was good because I could explore the place and look out for cool food places!
We checked in at 2pm and was warmly welcomed by the hotel staff. The first thing that caught my eye was that they were dressed like flight attendants and pilots which was so cute! We were also served some 'aeroplane apple juice' as a welcome drink. Once check-in was done, we were handed our room keycards and 'boarding passes' with details of things to do around the area.
Our room was located on level 2 so it was a quick ride up the elevator. I let out a little squeal when I saw our room because it was so cute! Our Cabin Plane Theme Twin Room was designed to look like the interior of a plane or perhaps, a giant first-class cabin. There were two beds in the room - a single bed and a queen bed beside it.
Our room had all the basic amenities you needed such as a hair dryer, water cooker, mineral water bottles, a telephone, and tea and coffee packets.
The bathroom was very simple and clean and had a water heater that needed about 10 minutes to get the water heated up. I loved that the water pressure was very strong too!
ibis budget Singapore Selegie does not have a gym, but it has a rooftop swimming pool. The swimming pool is really cute and it has a quaint view overlooking the area.
There are some cute pink floats that you can use as well. You can chill at the sunbeds or at this cushioned sofa with lots of soft pillows. The sun was out when we were there which made it perfect for us to get a good tan. I took many nice pictures here too!
Dinner was served at 7pm in the cutest way possible. The hotel staff actually came up (still dressed like flight attendants) and served us our food in a tray. I have to admit that aeroplane food generally tastes very meh, but this one was great! We had the Asian Selection which came in two choices - the beef rendang and chicken set. Each set came with a salad, cake, bread roll and spread, and a drink.
Sitting in our rooms watching TV and enjoying our dinner, it felt as if we were really in a first-class cabin!
There are many things to do around the area. We were actually hungry around 10.30pm and headed out to find food. We came across this restaurant called The Ramen House which served pretty decent ramen. After supper, we decided to continue walking and found ourselves at Dhoby Gaut, and eventually Plaza Singapura. We ended up buying tickets for a midnight movie!
On the way to Dhoby Gaut, you would also pass by the new GR.ID mall, formerly known as PoMo. There are not many restaurants and cafes open now as the mall is still very new, but you can just walk around and explore the ones that are currently open for business. Some noteworthy ones are Smile Dessert, Thai Street, Kamikaze Asian Tapas Bar, and Isshin Machi.

We were feeling Thai food so we had lunch at Thai Street. The prices were affordable and the food was not bad, although a little spicy.
There's also another hot spot in the area aside from GR.ID, which is the Eatbox food hall at Rochor. I like coming here because there usually isn't a lot of people and I like the food options. My boyfriend enjoyed a S$5 laksa while I got myself some banh mi. If you're staying at ibis budget Singapore Selegie, do make sure to visit Eatbox as it is only a 5-minute walk!
My boyfriend and I had a very pleasant staycation at ibis budget Singapore Selegie. The concept of exploring Singapore and experiencing 'travel vibes' are very interesting and I believe it's something that a lot of people will be interested in. Selegie is also a great place to explore because of all the new places that have popped up, and is also within walking distance from Dhoby Gaut, PoMO, Eatbox, and Prinsep St. While we only had a staycation for one night, I think we would have done a lot more things if we stayed for two or even three nights!
