Hey, Faithfuls. Welcome to the second part of our France road trip itinerary! The first part covered our trip to Paris, Aix-En-Provence, and Hyeres. Now, we'll cover what we did while in Verdon Gorge and Nice. We were in Verdon Gorge and Nice for one night each. It was a pretty quick trip to both destinations, so this blog post will be slightly shorter than the first one.

France road trip itinerary (part 2)

We wanted to cover as many different places as we could during our trip to France. Paris was the city, Aix-En-Provence the countryside, and Hyeres the beach town. Verdon Gorge is the deepest canyon in France, and Nice is the town bordering Monaco, which was where we were planning to take a day trip. We were also heading to Italy right after Nice.

Verdon Gorge

Verdon Gorge is a very, very mountainous place, and it is also a popular camping site. We managed to book a little caravan at Camping Calme et Nature for ~S$123 (€82.44). We booked the Superior Mobile Home for four adults, which had a bathroom, terrace, kitchen, toilet, bathroom, and small seating area. Thank goodness it had a heater as well because the temperate was 8° during the early morning.

We also had a gorgeous mountain view that was simply magical.

What to do in Verdon Gorge

Verdon Gorge is really an outdoorsy place, so the best things to do here are go camping, go rafting or kayaking. We were unable to go rafting because the river tide was too low, so we went kayaking instead at the Lake of Sainte-Croix, which was a 30-minute drive from our caravan. It's also the third largest lake in France!

We rented one of those foot paddle boats for two hours, which cost us about €20/person.

It's very hard to drive in the area especially when it's dark, which can get pretty dangerous. As the drive was tiring, we also took frequent pit stops.

There are a few restaurants and cafes nearby as well, but I recommend having an early dinner so you can drive home safely before the sun sets.

Nice

Hotel in Nice

Our hotel in Nice was a hostel, and we booked a room with four bunk beds at Hôtel Ozz by HappyCulture. It also had a common lounge area in the lobby where people would hang out and make friends.

The area where we stayed seemed a bit shady at night, as there were many bars and clubs around. There were also a lot of drunk people or huge men in big groups, which felt really scary because they stared at you as you walked past. Apparently, the area we stayed in was not the safest place, but we learned that a lot later.

There were a lot of food options in the area and a lot of Asian food! We actually settled on Vietnamese food for our first meal because we were craving a bowl of clear soup.

What to do in Nice

This should actually be called 'What to do in Monaco' because we headed straight for Monaco right after lunch at Nice. Monaco was about a 40-minute drive away, if you drove fast.

We headed straight for the Casino de Monte-Carlo, which was where we spent the majority of our time. There are other smaller casinos surrounding it, as well as hotels, luxury boutiques, and restaurants. My boyfriend and his friend spent at least five hours at the casino, while my friend and I roamed around the streets and explored the Formula One circuit!

For dinner, we went to TIP TOP, which is just a five-minute walk from the casino. It is also just along the F1 track. We headed back to Nice around 10pm and returned our rental car before walking back to our hostel.

France road trip itinerary (part 2)

Okay, so this blog post is a little short, but I didn't want to pack it into part one and make it super long. In total, we spent about eight days in France and managed to visit different cities, towns, and beaches. If you want to discover all the different things France has to offer, our itinerary would be a pretty good one to refer to!

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great time in France!
