Panda Coffee Review: Mala Tang & Coffee @ ICON Link

Hey, Faithfuls! So, as someone who loves both mala and coffee, I never thought I’d find them under one roof—until now. It’s an unusual combination, but somehow, Panda Coffee makes it work.

Located at ICON Link@Club Street, in Basement 2 of Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre, this minimalist cafe-meets-mala-spot is a pleasant surprise in the CBD. The interior features faux marble-topped tables, monochrome tones, and a clean, minimalist aesthetic. The space is compact but cosy, which makes it good for quick lunch breaks or a casual meal with friends.

The star of the show is definitely their mala tang, which is served by Cooking Panda—a mala brand hailing from Chengdu. Cooking Panda and Panda Coffee share the same space, BTW!

There are four soup bases to choose from: the classic Mala Soup, Chicken Soup, Tomato Soup, and Red Oil Soup. We went for the classic mala in 小辣 (mild), but it felt more like a borderline 中辣 (medium) to my tastebuds. Still, the numbing sensation was manageable, and we happily finished every ingredient.

For our bowl, we picked ingredients like beef, chicken, cheese balls, and Chinese sausage. There’s also a solid variety—lobster balls, pork, quail eggs, crab sticks, fish balls, beancurd skin, enoki mushrooms, sliced potatoes, kelp, and more. It’s fully customisable, so you can make your bowl as indulgent (or as veggie-packed) as you like.

Panda Coffee serves up artisanal brews alongside the spicy soup—another unexpected but welcome pairing. We tried three drinks, the first being the Orange Americano (S$5.50). This was stronger than what I usually get from Luckin, with a bright citrusy lift from the orange. The zestiness helped cut through the espresso's bitterness, giving the drink a vibrant, slightly sweet twist.

I also tried their Pandan Panda (S$7.50). This one reminded me of something my parents would enjoy—mild, lightly fragrant with pandan notes, and not too sweet.

I was really surprised that I enjoyed their Latte (S$6) so much. Honestly? Pretty mind-blowing. Smooth, rich roasted flavour without being acidic. The milk was perfectly steamed—not too heavy—and it came with some pretty decent latte art, too.

Panda Coffee is definitely one of those places you wouldn’t expect to work, but somehow it just does. It’s a hidden gem for CBD folks looking for comfort mala and quality coffee in the same spot. I’d gladly return for both! Thanks for reading, and see you next post!
