SUMHIIT Fitness Review: Beginner-Friendly Cardio & HIIT Workouts @ Orchardgateway

Hey, Faithfuls! So, I recently made the huge mistake of walking into a new HIIT class thinking, “I got this,” cos I walked out drenched in sweat. SUMHIIT Fitness at Orchard Gateway felt very familiar for me but also different. This isn’t your average HIIT workout.

I do Body Fit Training, AKA BFT, pretty regularly, so I’m no stranger to high-intensity workouts, but SUMHIIT still brought something new. The format is simple but effective. Each session starts off with one minute of cardio, and it’s straight into the deep end with the air bike.

Sixty seconds of full effort to get your heart rate up doesn’t sound like much, but push hard, and you’ll feel it immediately. After that, it’s a one-minute switch to the “floor” for strength work, alternating between kettlebells, dumbbells, TRX, medicine balls, and bodyweight moves. The rhythm is consistent throughout the class: 1 minute cardio and 1 minute strength. Repeat for 35 minutes straight.

What makes SUMHIIT different from BFT is the pacing and weight intensity. BFT tends to have lower rep counts but uses heavier weights and focuses on more explosive movements. SUMHIIT, on the other hand, goes for sustained effort with lighter weights, which makes it more beginner-friendly.

My sister, who hasn't worked out in a while, came with me—and by the end of the class, she was wrecked. We both broke a serious sweat, and even though it didn’t feel as punishing as BFT, our muscles were absolutely worked. The instructors were patient with explaining and guided us on how to do the correct exercises, which really helped us get the most out of the session without feeling lost or overwhelmed.

The session ends with 10 minutes of stretching and core work, which was a nice wind-down to tighten up those abs and catch your breath. It's not just a throwaway cooldown either; I actually left the studio feeling more grounded and less like I had been hit by a fitness truck LOL.

Booking is all done through the SUMHIIT app, which makes things super easy. You can view class schedules, manage your membership, track how many classes you’ve done, and even earn points. A trial package starts from S$60, which averages out to S$15 per class for four classes, which is pretty reasonable given the prime location and workout quality.

SUMHIIT also really went all out with the amenities. There’s a private changing room with proper lockers and huge showers.

It's not your usual tiny cubicle—a full shower room with space to hang your clothes and a bench for your bag. Towels are provided too, which just makes things way more convenient.

And there’s a retail section! They’ve recently collaborated with Urbanized Co., a popular activewear brand, so if you’ve been eyeing their stuff online but weren’t sure how it looked or felt IRL, now’s your chance to try before you buy.

Overall, I had a really good time. I wouldn’t call it the most intense workout of my life (BFT still wins on that front), but SUMHIIT is great for days when you want to get your sweat on without feeling completely obliterated. It’s accessible, clean, friendly, and in a super convenient location. Perfect if you want a quick burn and a huge shower to reward yourself after.

Thanks for reading, and see you next post!
