Blue Bottle Coffee Review: Famous American Coffee Brand @ LUMINE

Hey, Faithfuls! So, I usually try to avoid the madness of opening-day queues, but since I happened to be in the area, I decided to check out the newly opened Blue Bottle Coffee at Raffles City. This marks the cult coffee chain's first-ever location in Southeast Asia, and naturally, all of Singapore showed up.

Blue Bottle Coffee Singapore is located within the LUMINE flagship store, opening from 8am daily. I arrived at around 12pm, just a few hours after their official launch, and sure enough, the queue had already snaked along the front. Thankfully, the staff were organised—I was handed a menu while joining the line, and the flow moved steadily. It took me about 35 minutes to reach the front.

Near the order counter, there’s a small display of Blue Bottle’s in-house merchandise—mugs, tumblers, coffee filters and tote bags—all minimalist and well-designed, though a little pricey at over S$30 for a cup.

Once at the counter, you pay and receive a queue number. While waiting, you can peek at the baristas working behind the counter—lots of people were filming and taking photos, understandably. The wait after ordering was about five minutes. No media, though, since they already had first dibs the day before.

I tried their Nola (S$8), which is available iced only. It looks like an iced latte, just a little darker. The drink is a mix of milk and organic cane sugar, resulting in a sweet, rich flavour on the milkier side. It's not super roasty or punchy, but it's enjoyable if you're into a gentler coffee profile.

I opted to take away as the dine-in area required a longer wait. The interior is spacious and warm, not sterile like some "minimalist" cafes, and there’s plenty of natural light. It’s good for photos, though some tables are placed quite close together, so I can't imagine you can gossip in private without the whole CBD listening in.

It’s not just coffee on the menu either. Blue Bottle has partnered with Bakery Brera to serve a range of pastries, including two Singapore-exclusive items: the Coconut Kouign-Amann (S$8) and Pandan Canelé with Kaya. Other options include the Plain Croissant (S$7), Almond Croissant (S$8), Pain au Chocolat (S$8), and Triple Cheese and Turkey Croissant (S$8).

Overall, I probably wouldn’t make a special trip just for Blue Bottle Coffee, but if I’m in the area, I wouldn’t mind stopping by again—maybe after the hype dies down a little.

Thanks for reading, and see you next post!
