Hey, Faithfuls! I’ve been meaning to write this review for a long time now, but I keep forgetting because I’ve been SWAMPED. It was a media tasting, and they only required me to do a quick video on IG, but I was impressed with their food, which is why I thought they deserved a review.

If you live near East Coast Park, you may have walked past East Coast Commune, which is located next to the late-night prata place. They’ve actually been around for a while, but have recently rebranded. I brought my boyfriend along, and he told me that he dined here once, but it was a loooong time ago, so he was excited to see how much has changed.

The space has both indoor and outdoor seats, and we chose to sit outside among all the potted plants. It kind of felt like you were dining in a garden. They have long sharing tables too, but also smaller ones for couples, which was nice.

fish-and-chips

We ordered quite a bit because we were hungry. Out of the two mains, their Fish & Chips (S$25) was the highlight for me. The halibut was thin and crisp, with no fishy taste at all, and it came with fries, green herb aioli, and lemon. The portion was GREAT, and you know my biggest pet peeve is small-portioned food.

The Steak & Hasselback (S$35) was good too, featuring 200g of Australian grain-fed picanha with charred broccolini, chimichurri, and potatoes. It was tender and melty—exactly how you’d imagine a steak to be. Nothing super fancy, to be honest, but it was simply and satisfyingly done.

For sides, we got the Mozzarella Cheese Sticks (S$13) with basil tomato concasse, as well as Crispy Brussels Sprouts (S$14). The latter was my fave as it came with jalapeño cream cheese, curry crumb, and cocktail onion. The outside was charred and smoky while the inside was still crunchy, which was a huge plus.

Drinks-wise, we tried the Matcha (S$7.50), Gula Melaka Latte (S$9), and Iced White (S$7.50). Unfortunately, the matcha was more milky than grassy and umami (which is how I usually like it), and the Gula Melaka Latte was a bit too sweet for me with the pandan and coconut milk. The Iced White was the best of the three—smooth, nutty, and not too bitter.

Overall, East Coast Commune is a solid spot if you’re around East Coast and don’t mind paying a bit more for Western food. Prices here are cafe-level, but the vibe and food were great, and my boyfriend was left impressed, saying that he wouldn’t mind coming back again. In Singapore, where there are plenty of pretty cafes with mediocre offerings, it’s defo worth noting a spot that does both aesthetics and food well.

Thanks for reading, and see you next post!
