The St. Regis Staycation Review: Caroline Astor Suite
The St. Regis Caroline Astor Room Staycation Review
Woot woot! It's the second month of 2021 and we're onto our second staycation of the year, and this time it's at The St. Regis Singapore!
My boyfriend and I decided to have this staycation to celebrate our second anniversary, and I specifically chose St. Regis because of all the gorgeous pictures of it on Instagram. Also, it's a 6-star hotel that Mr Kim Jong Un stayed at during his visit to Singapore in 2018!
We booked a two-night stay from Saturday to Monday. Check-in was at 3pm, but the reception said we could come in at 10.30am for early check-in. When we arrived, the hotel was so empty it was literally just us and another couple checking in. It's a good thing we came early too because by 2.30pm the lobby was swarmed with people.
Check-in was fast and swift, and the staff were kind enough to give us a complimentary upgrade to the Caroline Astor Suite! Initially, the room we wanted was the St Regis Suite, 1 Bedroom Junior Suite, 1 King at S$342/night (U.P. S$489). Also, the Caroline Astor Suite is just three tiers below the Presidential Suite!
As we are Marriot Bonvoy members, the hotel gave us a bunch of benefits such as a 10% discount on their F&B outlets, COMPLIMENTARY Daily International Breakfast for both of us at Brasserie Les Saveurs, COMPLIMENTARY movies on demand for in-room entertainment, free local calls, and 24-hour butler service inclusive of unpacking and packing of luggage, hot coffee or tea served with your wake-up call, and shoe shine services. We also get to enjoy the Daily Aperitivo Hour at the Astor Bar, which is basically us getting free alcohol and snacks - more on this later!
When we went up to our Caroline Astor Suite at Level 11 and opened the door, our mouths dropped. The room was so beautiful! The first room that caught our eye was definitely the HUGE living area which we lived for - it had a luxurious looking sofa right smack in the middle of the room, and had views overlooking Tanglin Road.
There were even rose petals laid gracefully from the door all the way to the living room. We were also given a chocolate cake which said “Happy Anniversary!” and complimentary chocolates too.
The next place we ran to was the master bedroom. It was very spacious and had this gorgeous bed and a large TV screen. There was also this extravagant chandelier hanging over the bed which really gave the whole room this atas-AF vibe that no one asked for but was 100% needed. I immediately turned on the TV for some noise and because I was curious to see what free movies I could enjoy, and there were a lot - like, Toy Story 4, IT and Captain Marvel.
The bedroom was connected to the bathroom via this walk-in closet. It’s every girl’s dream to have a walk in closet so I was so happy our room had one! It was a little small and served more as a walkway to the toilet than an actual closet, but hey, I’m not complaining!
Our favourite part of the entire suite had to be the bathroom. The bathroom was literally the reason why we booked our staycation at St. Regis! It was fully decked in marble with a separate bathtub and shower, double vanities and a lighted makeup mirror. Every inch of the large bathroom screamed lux and was the perfect place to retreat to after a long day shopping at Orchard.
Possibly another reason why our suite looked so spacious was that there were mirrors everywhere. Like, everywhere. We were greeted by this big ass, full-length, floor-to-ceiling mirror on the left the moment we entered the room; mirrors were everywhere in the bedroom and bathroom as well. The architect of St. Regis probably guessed that mirror selfies were going to be a big thing 100 years later!
Our room didn’t have a kitchen except for a mini refrigerator and minibar which had bottled water, Nespresso coffee and machine, and TWG Tea. After the staycation, we realised that the hotel also provided grocery shopping service which we failed to utilise, but would have been super useful for us since we are lazy gluttons.
After touring the room and taking pictures like the FOMO madness that we are, we finally settled down to enjoy lunch before heading to the gym to work away those calories! The St. Regis fitness centre is open for 24-hours even during Covid days, but only five people are allowed inside at a time. We loved the gym because it overlooked the swimming pool and had a whole set of TechnoGym equipment. We spent about 2 hours here each day and got a good workout each time!
After gymming, we would typically head to the swimming pool to cool it off. The pool is just a regular pool - don’t expect any fancy infinity pool or whatever, but I liked the tropical vibe and that it was so shady! Not so good for sun tanning, but great for relaxing.
After our bodies cooled down, we headed back to our rooms to have a quick shower and prepare for the Daily Aperitivo Hour at the Astor Bar from 4pm-6pm. This is basically The St. Regis’ signature ritual where they mark the transition from day to evening. This ritual is performed every day at each St. Regis hotel across the globe. Here, we enjoyed drinks and a choice of antipasti per person, and enjoyed an interesting showcase by the Astor Bar bartenders. After the showcase, everyone got a free glass of champagne!
The bartender was kind enough to teach my boyfriend some bartending tricks too!
That night we had dinner at Brasserie Les Saveurs, which is the same restaurant where we would be having breakfast the next day. Dinner was exquisite and as French as it could possibly get. 1. The meat was the most tender I’ve ever tasted and looked red AF but delicious AF. 2. They served lots of tasty bread which were even bigger and more filling than the main course itself. 3. It was expensive. 4. The dishes were on the smaller side and my boyfriend’s main course was literally six scallops, BUT everything was soooooooooooooo good.
After that excellent dinner, we retreated to our suite with a giant food coma. Once back in our rooms, we realised that turndown service had been done so the room was dimly lit and our curtains were drawn. It was a perfect setting to just fall into bed and sleep! Of course, we both rejected the idea of an early night and wanted to savour as much of the staycation as possible, so we spent the rest of the night having bubble baths and watching movies.
One downside about the room is that it isn't soundproof, so many apologies to our neighbours who may have heard us watching really loud war movies at 11pm... P.S. the surround sound was really amazing...
For this staycation, we chose to have breakfast in our suite on the second day and breakfast at the restaurant on the third. So on day two, we ordered breakfast from the Private Dining Breakfast Menu and had a whole cart delivered to our suite. This was my first time having such a lavish hotel breakfast and I loved how I could take my time and enjoy each and every bite without having to rush. The breakfast was incredibly generous and we took the whole day to eat it! Taste-wise, I give everything a 7/10, aside from the amazing pastries which were 10/10. And I don’t even like pastries!
On day three (check-out day), my boyfriend and I went to Brasserie Les Saveurs for breakfast before I headed off to work, and him back to the comfort of the bed. While in-bedroom breakfast came in a set, breakfast at the restaurant was served a la carte.
I absolutely loved our staycation at St. Regis. Everything was spectacular from the service to the room, to the ambience and food. Everything was just so great and this is my favourite staycation thus far!
