The Fullerton Hotel Staycation Review: Esplanade Room
We finally got to our room around 3.45pm which was perched on the highest level of The Fullerton Hotel - level 8! Our room was HUGE compared to the previous room we stayed in, which was the Marina Bay View Room.
My boyfriend did try to shamelessly request for a room upgrade, but the staff told us that our room was already the best for our tier - which is technically true because the next room did not have the Marina Bay view. And it's a good thing we didn't upgrade because the view from the Esplanade Room was pretty! We even got front row seats during the MBS light show at night.
We toured the room to look at the amenities, and surprisingly there were much fewer amenities given this time. The first time we stayed, the room had room slippers and the bathroom amenities included lotion, shavers, and shower caps. This time there were none. We called the reception to ask if they provided these items, and they said "yes, upon request". So ummm, okay!
After settling down, we headed over to The Courtyard for high tea - The Fullerton Hotel's 'Teatime In Paris'. From 3pm-5.30pm, The Fullerton Hotel's high tea was priced at S$51/person and included free-flow savoury treats! Much to our delight, the high tea was really good and the sweet and savouries were both appetizing and unique. I don't even like scones, but theirs were one of the best I've tasted.
After the high tea, we proceeded to the gym to run away all those calories! The gym typically requires a booking but not many people visit it anyway, so we could just enter. The gym equipment was good and extensive - you could run on the treadmill, lift weights, do vertical climbs, or do HIIT workouts. There are all safe-distancing measures in place such as partitions between the treadmills so we could exercise in total privacy and safety.
After sweating it out, we visited The Fullerton Hotel's iconic pool! The rooftop pool is always crowded so be sure to book it ASAP. There were soooooo many people there and it was constantly noisy because of all the kids, but thankfully my boyfriend and I managed to get good sun-tanning seats each time we were there.
For dinner we ordered room service from Jade Restaurant, The Fullerton Hotel's Chinese restaurant. The food was delicious but came in really small portions, and was pricey - about S$200++ for everything you see on the table.
Honestly, our staycation was pretty pleasant, but we could feel the differences between our first and second stay. This time the service was not as good as the first time, possibly because of the great influx of guests during the June holidays. We also suspect that the hotel is trying to cut costs as many of the hotel room amenities have to be requested for instead of being readily available in the room. This may be a good thing since it prevents wastage as well.
The service was also rather slow this time around, and we had to wait very long for certain requests to be fulfilled, such as having water sent up to the room or getting new towels. Of course, we understand that there were a lot of guests so efficiency would be affected. Speaking of crowds, there were a lot of people so I suggest not going during the holidays!
Regardless we still really enjoyed this staycation and am glad to have gotten such a nice room at these rates. Would we come again... well...maybe, but not in the near future. I'd very much prefer a place that's less crowded and with more privacy!
Thanks for reading, and see you next post.
