Hey, Faithfuls! With Italy closing borders to Singapore, I was feeling really sad because I've been wanting to visit Italy forever. So one Saturday night I was walking around the Tanjong Pagar area when I came across this cosy-looking Italian restaurant called Pasta Brava. We were lucky enough to get a seat too, although it was very packed inside.

Apparently Pasta Brava is moving from this location and will be moving to The Scarlet Singapore, and will be known as Sofi Cafe Pizza. So lucky us again, because we were one of their last customers to experience the restaurant at this specific location.

After speaking with one of their staff, we found out that the reason for their move was because rental prices were rising and the current building was very old. It's really a shame because the old location is very nice. It's dimly lit and cosy, and really makes you feel like you're in Italy.

The Sofi Cafe Pizza menu was quite comprehensive and there were many Italian dishes with names we were unfamiliar with. We asked for recommendations and the staff introduced us their must-try items. Here's what we got!

The first dish of the night was the Gamberi Con Pomodorini Aglio E Prezzemolo (S$19.90) with sauteed prawns, garlic, cherry tomato, and parsley. As it was an appetizer, the portion was not very big. However, the taste was exquisite - the prawns were very fresh and I loved the distinct hints of garlic. It was a savoury dish that really opened up your apetite.

The second appetiser was the Sformato Di Melanzane Alla Parmigiana (S$19.50), one of my favourite dishes of the night. It consisted of oven-glazed eggplant with tomato sauce, parmesan, mozzarella, and basil. It looked like a lasagna and almost tastes like one too - just replace the pasta sheets with eggplant.

Our first main was Spaghetti Al Cartoccio Del Barcarolo Alla Marina (S$28.50) - a mouthful, I know. This spaghetti was unique because it came served in parchment paper, which is how some pasta is served in Italy. The spaghetti had crayfish, garlic, herbs, and tomato sauce. The sauce was sweet and tangy, and the crayfish tasted fresh and quite juicy.

Another pasta we got was the Fettuccine Alla Carbonara (S$25.50) with smoked bacon. I really loved this pasta. It could be a little jelak, but when it comes to carbonara, I personally prefer it to be creamy and almost overwhelming! The pasta itself was thin and chewy.

We also had the Rigatoni All'Amatriciana (S$25.50) - a rigatoni with bacon and onion in tomato sauce. In hindsight we should have only ordered this or the crayfish marinara because they tasted very similar.

Lastly, we got the Today's Special (420g) - an off-the-menu dish with pork and mashed potatoes. I didn't really like this dish because the meat was very fatty, and thought that the mash potatoes were much nicer than the meat itself!

For dessert, we treated ourselves to the Lava Al Cioccolato (S$14.50) and Torta Di Mele Al Mascarpone (S$12.80), an Italian apple cake with Mascarpone cheese and served with vanilla ice-cream. The desserts were fantastic. If you like sweet things you will definitely be a fan of the soft, gooey chocolate lava!

Our experience at Sofi Cafe Pizza was really great, and we found the food and service to be splendid. Also, a big shout-out to the staff at Sofi Cafe for going out of their way to ensure we had a delightful meal.

Although I'm not sure if the ambience at Sofi Cafe Pizza's new location will be as homey and unique as the old one, I'm pretty sure the food will still taste awesome! Can't wait to check out their new outlet soon.

Thanks for reading, and see you next post.
