Hey, Faithfuls! Ever since I moved to the East, I've been frequenting Katong more often. The area is teeming with cafes, and new ones seem to be popping up all the time. One of the newer additions is Monk's Brew Club, situated across from Roxy Square. FYI, Monk's Brew Club has taken over the space previously occupied by a beer restaurant.

The cafe has two levels. The street-level area is open to the public and features cosy sofas, while the upper level houses a co-working space decked out in the cafe's distinctive green colour scheme. Prices start from S$20 per day, and if you become a member, you'll even receive a complimentary drink with every visit! They also offer meeting rooms if you require more privacy and tranquillity.

The ceilings are soundproofed, and there are free Wi-Fi and power outlets, allowing you to work in peace. If you need extra privacy, you can book one of their meeting rooms, which are equipped with monitors. Reservations for these rooms are on a first-come-first-served basis. For inquiries or bookings, email info@monksbrew.club.

During my visit for lunch, I had the opportunity to sample several of their dishes. We started with the Fried Brussels Sprouts with Cherry Tomatoes and Monk’s Curry Verde Sauce (S$10) to share. As a fan of Brussels sprouts, I appreciated the slight char on them.

Next up was the Breakfast Hot Plate (S$24), featuring chicken sausages, grilled tomatoes, crispy bacon, potato tots, cucumber, and pickles. It was served with olive bread toast and a choice of eggs. This hearty dish was incredibly appetising, and I particularly enjoyed the not-too-oily potato tots and crispy bacon.

Another must-try is the Crispy Combo (S$22), which consists of a crispy waffle topped with your choice of smoked salmon or fried chicken, drizzled with honey and maple syrup. We opted for the fried chicken, and it was delightfully crispy. This dish comes with a side of pickled cucumber, pickled onions, and mixed salad.

We also tried the Falafel Fusion Burger (S$22), featuring a falafel patty layered with grilled basil oregano, paneer cottage cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and kale pesto, all sandwiched between a brioche bun. It is served with a side of salad or fries.

They provide a range of unique coffee concoctions, such as the Spicy Mocha (S$10), Tre Fontane (S$10), and Cococcino (S$10). The Cococcino was our favourite, as it had a distinct coconut flavour. It is a good drink even for people who don't usually drink coffee!

The portions at Monk's Brew Club are generous and satisfying, making it excellent value for money. It's definitely one of the standout cafes in Katong, living up to the hype. I highly recommend giving them a try if you're in the area!
