I've wanted to visit this new cafe in Joo Chiat ever since I saw it go viral on TikTok and Lemon8. The cafe is called Bites & Brews. It's actually a popular franchise from Shanghai, known for its Western-Chinese fusion food, such as jian bing burritos and map tofu lasagna.

Bites & Brews may sound like an "ang moh" cafe, but its interior is inspired by Peranakan design. It has an eclectic style with a cottagecore aesthetic, featuring Peranakan-style window frames, tiles with flower motifs, and rustic furniture. I also loved the pretty water cups and ceramic plates that the food was served on.

Their grilled cheese sourdough sandwiches have been popular on social media. I went for the Philly Cheesesteak (S$26). This sandwich includes soy-grilled beef, caramelised onions, mayo, cheddar, and mozzarella, all between sourdough toast that's toasted to perfection, giving the bread a slight tang. It comes with your choice of french fries or salad.

I had the fries and they were pretty good! They actually taste like actual potatoes, and were lightly salted.

My boyfriend ordered the Burrata Caprese (S$26), which also comes with your choice of french fries or salad. It had burrata, tomatoes, pesto mayo, red pepper pesto, and spinach. This was lighter on the palate and tasted quite healthy, but it was really delicious.

You can also order beer or cocktails. We opted for an Estrella Damm Spanish Beer (S$8) and a Sangria (S$8) to refresh ourselves on a hot day.

It's a really nice place to hang out. We chatted the whole day there until the hot day turned into a rainy one. The service was pretty good despite it being really crowded. I recommend dining al fresco; it's nice to chill outside even if the weather is hot since the cafe has fans outside. Do check the cafe out if you live in the East!
