Hey, Faithfuls! You all know how much I love cafes, and I’m super excited to share one of my current faves with you—SYIP Luzerne. Located just a five-minute walk from Bendemeer MRT Station, this new spot has quickly become my go-to for lunch.

SYIP is well-known for its creative brunch menu and aesthetic interiors. Their menu offers unique mains, sides, and a selection of delectable tarts and cakes.

While this new outlet is notably more spacious compared to their Farrer Park branch, it still maintains that minimalist-industrial vibe that SYIP is famous for, with floor-to-ceiling windows, sleek metallic grey furnishings, and pops of greenery.

Let's talk about the food, especially their mains!

I headed down with a plus one and decided to try the Beef Ragu Rigatoni (S$25). It’s a combination of rigatoni, braised red wine beef cheek, burrata cheese, and confit tomatoes. Now, I’ll be honest—I’m not the biggest fan of beef ragu, probably because of its very meaty taste, which isn’t really my thing. The rigatoni seemed a bit tougher than al dente, almost like it was store-bought, but I did enjoy the sauce, which had a nice tangy kick. The beef cheek was incredibly tender, and you could really taste the red wine. And the burrata? Simply divine. I never complain when there’s burrata involved.

We also tried the Scallop & Prawn Pumpkin Risotto (S$25), and I have to say, I liked this one a lot! It featured Arborio rice with grilled tiger prawn (already peeled, which is always a plus!), Canadian scallops, and a sprinkling of rocket. It was a delicious umami dish, with a savoury depth that was perfectly balanced by the natural sweetness of the prawns.

While both mains were decent, I have to mention that SYIP’s portions tend to be on the smaller side, so we ordered some sides too. My absolute favorite? The Mentaiko Tater Tots (S$11). They’re so crispy, and the portion is generous. They give you just enough mentaiko sauce to keep things tasty without overdoing it. I will warn you, though—eating these might give you that “sore throat” feeling afterward, but they’re totally worth it.

Now, onto desserts and drinks! We tried the Mochi Affogato With Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream (S$9), and it was a treat. The affogato is served on the side, so you pour it over the mochi, which makes it melt into this heavenly, stretchy delight. The affogato itself was perfect—more on the bitter side and super creamy, just the way I like it.

For drinks, I went for the Peanut Butter Latte (S$6.50). Like their mains, the drinks here are on the smaller side, which makes them feel a bit pricey. The peanut butter flavor wasn’t as pronounced as I’d hoped; I wish it had been more distinct. I also tried the Honey Espresso Soda (S$6), and while the honey didn’t really come through, the espresso was smooth and easy to drink—a great choice for beginner coffee drinkers.

SYIP is definitely one of my favorite places to grab lunch, though I don’t go too often because it can be a bit pricey. For now, I visit when I want to splurge or just have a good time because honestly, I enjoy it every single time.

Thanks for reading, and see you next post!
