2050 Coffee Review: Futuristic Cafe Matcha On Tap @ Bugis
Hey, Faithfuls! So you know that joke about how “Japan is living in 2050”? I actually experienced that frfr with the recent opening of 2050 Coffee. This Kyoto-born brand is the brainchild of the same team behind Kurasu, a well-known Japanese specialty coffee name with two popular outlets in Singapore! I'm a huge fan of Kurasu, so I wanted to try 2050 Coffee and see if it lives up to its fanfare.
I headed down on their very first day open to the public, eager to check out what they had to offer. Beyond just serving coffee, 2050 Coffee is built around a deeper purpose—its name references the “2050 problem”, a growing concern in the industry about the future scarcity of coffee due to climate change and unsustainable farming practices. The cafe is located a 10-minute walk from Bugis MRT Station.
One of the coolest features here is the automated taps. Instead of your usual espresso machine setup, they have a high-tech system where you just place your cup under the tap, hold it there for a few seconds, and then let it fill up automatically. It’s a whole new experience—efficient, precise, and oddly satisfying to watch as you film videos for TikTok.
The coffee lineup at 2050 Coffee is carefully curated, featuring a mix of single-origin beans and house blends. Whether you prefer something light and fruity or bold and robust, there’s something here for every coffee drinker!
On tap are Ethiopia (S$8.50), a naturally processed hot coffee with bright, clean flavours, as well as the 2050 House Blend (S$7.50), which is a stronger, more full-bodied option.
There's also Mexico (S$8), which is a unique semi-washed single-origin coffee with tasting notes of apple, green grapes, poached pear, and iced lemon tea. This one stood out with its clean, tea-like finish and delicate fruitiness. This is defo one for those who like a more refined, tea-like coffee profile.
For those who prefer something different, 2050 Coffee also has a tap for Iced Matcha Latte (S$7.50), using the same matcha as Kurasu.
It’s on the sweeter, milkier side, which some might love, but I personally would have liked a stronger matcha flavour.
If you’re after a Latte (S$6.50), it’s not from the tap but made using a fully automated espresso machine, ensuring consistency in every cup.
BTW, they have merch too, if you're looking for some cool fits so everyone knows you're a coffee lover.
With its futuristic concept, high-quality coffee, and seamless blend of technology and craft, 2050 Coffee is defo a spot worth checking out, even if some may find it a fad. I’m already looking forward to my next visit. Thanks for reading, and see you next post.
