Apricot & Co. Candle Workshop Review: Couple Activity @ Tai Seng
Hey, Faithfuls! I recently attended a Valentine's Day candle-making workshop and it was so so so so fun!!!!!! I am NOT gonna gatekeep it because y'all need to try it. So, this was a candle workshop located near Tai Seng MRT Station.
Held at their studio at 2 Pereira Road, the session lasted about two hours, depending on individual pace, and was priced at S$60 per person. I attended with my sister and cousin, and we left with our very own customised glass jar candles, complete with bamboo lids! The candles have a burn time of about 20 hours, BTW.
One delightful surprise was discovering that the workshop was run by Apricot & Co., a brand I’ve loved for over a year. I used to purchase their candles and home fragrances from their booth at Curbside Crafters, so it was exciting to meet the founder, Samantha, in person and chat before the session began. It added a personal touch to the entire experience! It's funny cos I was buying the candles without even knowing the brand until the day of the workshop.
The workshop started with a clear breakdown of the process, and Samantha guided us every step of the way. First, we paired scents from an extensive selection and noted down our preferences. After exploring different combinations, I settled on a blend of milk chocolate and Japanese citrus—a cosy and uplifting fragrance.
Next, we learned how to melt, mix, and stir the wax at just the right temperature. Decorating and pouring the candle proved to be the most challenging yet fun part for me. I had this idea of embedding charms in the middle of the candle while having some appear on the top, giving it a latte-inspired look. There was some trial and error involved, but I appreciated that nothing felt irreversible. If the wax cooled down too fast or the placement wasn’t right, we could simply re-melt and try again.
Participants could also choose between an opaque or transparent glass jar, depending on their design preferences. I opted for a transparent jar so the charms inside could be visible. You can also name your own candle. Once I finished my candle, I was thrilled—it looked far better than I expected and smelled fantastic, though I wished the orange note came through a little stronger.
To top it off, snacks from Scoop Wholefoods were provided throughout the session, which was a thoughtful and enjoyable touch. They also have their own toilet on-site, so you don't have to leave the space to take a wee. Workshop participants also enjoyed a 10% discount on Apricot & Co. products on the day of the workshop, so I treated myself to two room sprays.
Thanks for reading, and see you next post!
