Pelle and Pepe Review: Popular Bakery With Pastries & Coffee @ Joo Chiat
Hey, Faithfuls! I was back in Joo Chiat, like I always am, and this time I finally visited a bakery I've been wanting to visit for SO long: Pelle and Pepe. Tucked away in a quiet neighbourhood in the East, Pelle and Pepe is a cosy little cafe that you might miss if you’re not looking for it.
Located within Everitt Edge, a five-storey condominium with retail units on the ground floor, the cafe sits at the junction of Joo Chiat Place and Everitt Road. If you need a landmark, Ah Lim Mee Pok and Kim Choo Kueh Chang are just across the street.
Finding it feels a bit like uncovering a secret spot—just look out for the olive green door, which hints at the rustic and homey experience that awaits inside.
Unlike your typical bakery, Pelle and Pepe’s bakes are mostly plant-based and made with wholegrain ingredients. Their pastries contain butter, but for the most part, they rely on a natural starter for leavening, which gives their bakes a slight tanginess.
When we visited, some of their seasonal pastries on display included: Raspberry Scones (S$6.80), Cardamom Buns (S$6.50), and Almond Croissant (S$9).
Pelle and Pepe sources its coffee from Narrative Coffee Stand, known for its quality beans and well-balanced brews. They offer a range of filter coffee, espresso-based drinks, tea, juices, and bottled beverages. I had their iced white, which was strong, with fruity and slightly sour notes rather than the usual nutty, milky profile. If you enjoy bright, ever-so-slightly acidic coffee, this one’s for you.
My friend had their Iced Chocolate (S$6.50). It was light yet smooth, with a nice chocolatey taste that wasn't overly rich or heavy.
We actually dropped by around 2pm on a Saturday, and thankfully, there were still seats available. That said, we heard it gets quite packed early in the morning when they first open, so plan your visit accordingly.
If you’re looking for a quiet spot for breakfast or brunch, Pelle and Pepe is definitely worth a visit! Check it out if you live in the East, and even if you don't, it's worth travelling for!
