Hey, Faithfuls! So, I work in Jalan Besar, and after the gym, I like to treat myself to a little cafe date. Some friends told me about this new-ish spot at Flanders Square called romme. With its bare walls, wooden furnishings, and cushy cream sofas that make you feel like you're in someone's home, coupled with the fact that it's located in a slightly dingy neighbourhood, romme. really stands out.

It gets really crowded on weekends, so make a reservation if you can, or don’t come in big groups!

For sides, we had the Tempura Mushrooms (S$9), featuring crispy, airy tempura-style shimeji mushrooms served with mayonnaise on the side.

From the breakfast menu, we chose the Sunny Bacon Affair (S$14), which came with sunny-side-up eggs, pork bacon, Japanese cucumber, and house-made focaccia slices, served with their house-made chilli cream on the side.

They also have an all-day brunch menu from 11am, featuring items like aglio olio, vongole and more. I went for the Mushroom Perilla “Tofu Pesto” (S$16), a creamy perilla-basil tofu sauce that’s dairy-free, with mushrooms, garlic, onions, chilli flakes, linguine, and Parmigiano Reggiano.

Now onto my favourite part: the drinks! They have quite a variety, including matcha. I ordered the Mango Matcha Latte (S$8), which was really lovely and refreshing. The matcha is gao and umami, and definitely lets me live out my performative girl dreams.

Prices and portions are okay. I wouldn’t say the food is anything to shout about, but it’s nice enough, and I really like the ambience. If anything, I genuinely enjoyed the drinks! I’ve seen reviews saying the food is subpar, and honestly, I get it. But will that stop me from going back? Probably not.

Thanks for reading, and see you next post!
