Coexist Coffee Co. Review: Hidden West-Side Cafe With Brunch Plates @ Pasir Panjang
Hey Faithfuls! If this name sounds familiar, that’s because this is actually my third blog post about Coexist Coffee Co.—yes, I’m very clearly a fan. When they invited me down to check out their new Pasir Panjang outlet, I was genuinely excited.
Seating-wise, it’s mostly metal tables and chairs laid out in a way that slightly resembles a kopitiam setup, but like, the atas version. Please don’t cancel me for saying this. It’s casual, unfussy, and fits the neighbourhood well.
We honestly had so much food, and I just want to say a big thank you to the team for being so generous.
I’ve always loved their pasta, so naturally I went straight for the Ebiko Pasta (S$27). This dish features linguine tossed in an ebiko cream sauce with prawn stock, topped with grilled prawns and nori. The prawn flavour really shone through, and the ebiko added a nice briny richness to the sauce. What I especially enjoyed was the slightly charred, almost smoky flavour from the grilled prawns.
Next up was the Salted Egg Ebi Roll (S$22), which comes with a brioche roll stuffed with assorted prawns, salted egg aioli, fries, and homemade pickles. Surprisingly, this tasted very much like a zi char dish but in an elevated form. Not overly indulgent or heavy, just comforting and well-balanced. The brioche was soft and buttery, pairing really nicely with the rich salted egg sauce.
Then there was the Chilli Crab Shashuka (S$18). Coexist is known for their chilli crab–inspired dishes, and this was easily my most anticipated item. It’s served with a chilli crab tomato dip, tempura soft-shell crab, fried mantou, and a sous-vide egg. While the dish was enjoyable overall, the tomato flavour was quite strong and ended up overpowering the chilli crab notes. That said, the mantou was perfection. AS ALWAYS.
We also tried the Grilled Cheese Sandwich (S$20), a vegetarian option made with sourdough, Colby Jack, Pepper Jack, and mozzarella, served with mesclun, herbed potatoes, and tomato soup. The sandwich itself was on the harder side, but the cheese pull was excellent as it was melty, stretchy, and very generous. The tomato soup was lovely too: tangy, not overly creamy, and easy to enjoy alongside the sandwich.
For dessert, we had the Burnt Butter Toast (S$10), featuring toasted brioche with burnt butter, brown sugar, honey, blueberry compote, lemon cream, and almonds. Unfortunately, this wasn’t a hit for me. The brioche was way too hard—genuinely painful to bite into—and the flavours leaned very sweet and one-dimensional. Personally, I think this would have worked much better as soft, fluffy French toast.
To drink, I ordered the Coconut Cold Brew (S$7), a 12-hour cold brew coffee mixed with coconut water. It was refreshing and clean-tasting, but a little too diluted for my liking. I wish the coffee flavour were more intense, though I still appreciated it as a palate cleanser after such a heavy meal.
By the end of it all, I was so full. One thing I really appreciate about Coexist is that they don’t skimp on portions, and as someone who loves generous servings, this definitely scores points with me. The food overall was solid, comforting, and satisfying. I’ll probably be back again if I find myself in the west!
